Because being on the run for so long has obviously made him very observant and watchful. Duh.

Well, the walls and roof of the corridor are made of smooth carved stone. The floor is covered in square stone panels. A 4 by 4 section of these opened downwards in two halves to reveal the pit that Gerald is now in.

(There aren't rolls for finding traps in this game - you have to do it "manually".)

I will attempt to pull Gerald out of the pit, as soon as I know that no goblin is going to attempt to kill me as I do so.

Adarim
Fetch goblin corpses. Toss them in front of us repeatedly along the way to test for traps.

Saucix pulls Gerald out of the pit. Adarim tosses goblin corpses ahead of the party, but no traps are triggered. Without further incident you reach the end of the corridor. Here are two doors: one to the left and one straight ahead.

"For the night? the day has but just started, and the sun is still young in the sky! We are wounded, yes, but we must press onward. Should we be ambushed in this dark, dank corner, we would have no choice but to plunge further into the bowels of this place, knowing nothing of what lies ahead. Let us exercise caution in our progress."

Adarim
"Oh? Why not take advantage of this very room? There is one entry and one exit. We boobytrap both doors, and additionally make use of that spike pit which you so cleverly discovered. Many of us are not just wounded, we're barely functioning. Pressing on spells certain death, should there be more such traps ahead."

I stagger to a halt.

I concur with Adarim. Methinks we pressed on too early in any case. I want to help but it ain't worth me life. With your might, Gerald, I believe we could hold this place for years. What say you, leader?

I turn to Saucix and try to look fairly pitiful.

Adarim
"Very well."
Coat sword and prep arrows with oil. Oil trap the area around the doors if I have any left. Fashion some sort of brazier. Make mental note about exact position of trap door. Clear out body. Use goblin's swords to create traps (swords are tripped, swing into victim, etc. extinguish/place torches so that the traps are as dark as possible without making them forgettable to us, such that path is illuminated. DO NOT ARM TRAPS UNTIL EVERYTHING IS SET IN PLACE.
Carry out however much of this is possible.

Adarim is out of oil after pouring it all around the campsite earlier, but he gets the goblin corpse out of the pit.

How are you going to set up traps? There isn't really anything on the floor, roof or walls you can fasten the swords in. Maybe the doorhandles. You have a bunch of strange objects though, maybe you can figure something out.
