Got a question for all you brikwarriors...
As some of you know, i am part of a low-profile gaming company operating out of rhode island. my company is coming up with a new wargame, and i was given the assignment of getting some market data. i therefore figured that the lot of you at brikwars forums could help me out.
just vote in the poll.
The question is about the scale of the game, meaning the amount of figures usually in a game.
Platoon-level is roughly 40 men, organised in squads. with this option, it would look a lot like brikwars.
Company-level is roughly 3 platoons under a command section (40k seems to operate under this scale at the moment; rogue trader was platoon-level)
Finally, army-level would be the command of an entire army, similar to games like a&a or O.G.R.E.
thanks a lot!

do it as a army game but don't put too much detail in since you wont see it from a zoomed out view.

How's that compression ratio?

I'm saying platoon level, but I'm going to explain a little further.
I think that it should be a MAX of a platoon. Small squads would be much cooler.
The pieces could be small and very specialized. You could have a sort of machine-gunner available, a squad leader, explosives expert, etc. The game would mostly be played with missions between two small squads. Think of most FPSes, but in table-top form.
In FPSes people usually specialize in one thing or another by the weapons they choose. You could maybe have only a few main types of figures with interchangeable weapons somehow (which is similar to Warhammer by my understanding). You could have a sort of grid-map or hex-map and have that be the battlefield.
I just like having the uniformity and I think having it made like this would obviously promote that.
Pretty much just described Call Of Duty on the table-top. I would buy that game.

those are good suggestions you guys are making, i'll pass it on to R&D.
the game is going to be completely generic, so people can make their own armies (not generic as in 1 army list for everything, generic as in players make their own army lists). it's very customizable.
and i absolutely love the idea of platoon max size. i think i might write a small paper detailing the pros of that layout for the R&D boys.

oh i assumed computer game. but it can be aplied to table top.birdman wrote:what do you mean by a 'zoomed out view'?
in case i was unclear, it's a table-top game, not a computer game.
i mean like really micro scale. haveing the troops two finger widths high.

Platoons have more attention paid to individual soldiers, and thus gamers are more interested in their men.

I think that using squads is a great idea because it's a lot more fun to completely customize five or six elites than copy-pasta one hundred random grunts.

As if we care. More explosives!
Well, I think that they should be customizable, but still be so similar that they don't look like just a mashed together group of things.
Take for example a squad of six riflemen. You could have six different styles of riflemen to buy, one crouching a bit, one standing and firing, one walking or jogging, etc. For your squad of six you get one of each of these (maybe sell them in a pack) and a bunch of things that you could customize them with. They would all look the same except for the poses and then you could have some parts that clip on or you could glue on or something. Some examples for a basic machine-gunner or rifle squad:
A scope to put on a gun
Grenade launcher
Extra grenade (could clip on belt)
Pistol
Walkie talkie
The stats could then be customized by these small changes to the figures, like the figure you give a grenade to gets an extra grenade, the walkie talkie guy can communicate with people outside of the field (maybe a shot from outside like a sniper or in bigger games an artillery strike). You could have the squads in one "pack" and other "packs" that contain the accessories.
If you did it this way you would have the ability to customize and not have an army full of similar looking and similar skilled units, but they would still be uniform and look organized.

since I like both uniformed armies and unique squads/platoons. I voted company.

I'm going to have to say company level.
At platoon level, you start getting attached to your guys (Anyone who's played Ufo:Alien invasion, or X-com on hard knows what this can lead to).
But at army level, they turn into statistics.
Company level lets you still care about them, but you don't get really attached( kinda like Company of Heroes. Sure, I'll do my best to keep those riflemen alive, but it isn't game over when they die.)
And do we get free copies for our input?

Dude, CoH is Platoon sized. Singleplayer occasionally gets up to a company, but online/most skirmishes are definitely platoons.Massam wrote: Company level lets you still care about them, but you don't get really attached( kinda like Company of Heroes.
