Warhammer 40k Minis

This has more than likely been discussed in a different thread. But I still want to know.

I've been thinking for some time now about collecting Warhammer 40k miniatures, but I don't exactly know where to start. I don't what the Assault on Black Reach or whatever the heck it is because I hate both tyranids and space marines. I prefer either Imperial Guard, Tau, or Eldar, and would like a battleforce set for each but that is a crapload of money (plus I want some more vehicles and I hate kroot as well).

So, I'm considering just getting some various infantry and vehicles for each faction. What do you guys suggest? Also, post any Warhammer 40k-related comments here.

it's more expensive than Lego, most of the players are crazy neckbeards, but it's sill supposedly insane. Just not as insane as brikwars.

get more :studgod: instead

:godwin:

If you really want to start Warhamster 40 k, try to get something second hand on Ebay. That is much cheaper and with luck the minis are painted in a way that doesn't hurt the eye. If you don't like what you get, just paint it again.

If you want the best-looking minis, you have two choices. Grey Knights or Death Korps of Krieg. The former should be available on ebay, and I think they've gotten some new plastic models recently (when the new codex came out), while the latter are forge world models, and thus super expensive (but you might get lucky on ebay). Still, Grey Knights have by far the best looking power armor (and their TDA doesn't look like hunch-backed pig-men, which is a huge plus), and the Death Korps has the ever-ossum great coat/gas mask combo, with a bit of a WWI German visual flavor. Plus, the gas masks have a stylized skull built into their faces for more win. Even their cavalry horses wear gas masks.

Yeah, I've seen the Death Korps. Probably my favorite 40k faction, but they are a bit more expensive. Its been one of my dreams to reincarnate them in lego...

Where the hell are you getting these opinions from? You hate Marines and Nids; alright, fine. That's all on you, and I can kinda see where you're coming from, but... what on Earth do you possibly have against the Kroot, out of the entire WH40k universe?

Well I admit, they are great in close combat, but its just that something about them reminds me of jackals from halo. And I hate jackals immensely.

I'd say get the miniatures you like the most. Not game-wise, but how they look. Like, if you don't want a very cohesive force and you want to paint a bit that and a pinch of that. you could consider orks.
Oh, and if you want to play, be sure to play with guys who don't just want to win, but want a battle with a story and fun too.

They're shit in close combat. Trust me. I'm a Tau player. Against anything that's either designed for close combat or has good armor (read: Marines, Nids, Necrons, etc) they drop like flies and do almost nothing in return.

I use my Kroot squad mainly as a screening unit for my Fire Warriors. They drop like flies for a turn, maybe two, and then my FWs can rapid fire their asses off in the hopes that they won't get assaulted on the following turn.

EDIT:

Also this. If you're close to DC, you could come play the FBI (Steampunk Necrons), Dad (Orks, Marines, Nids), and I (Tau) (hopefully not all at once, though).

I was interested in painting some beautiful Reaper mini sculpts for a while, but the cost of paints and metal minis would have put me over my annual $100 budget for shit like this, so i went with plastics.

Not WH40k, but, still minis.

On the topic of WH40k, get Vostroyan Imperial Guard. You will be broke, but you will have the best looking army in the game.

That makes two of us.

No worries. First I live about eight hours from DC and second I would be much too terrified. Going up against Marines and Tau at the same time would be suicide.

It's funny you should bring that up, I just started painting a mini for my new character for Dad's Rise of the Runelords Pathfinder campaign and was contemplating starting a painting log for him in the Artwork forum.
