The New War - Turn 4
The barricade burns away, embers and rotting husks littering the space. The flame continues to burn along the edges but is starting to die.
Liossans land their first troops inside the wall.
The crossbowman toss their fallen foes aside. They fire across the gap at but aren't able to hit anything.
Infantry advances and bolts sizzle toward one of the horsemen.
A flurry of critical successes bring him down. One of the crossbows accidentally hit the footsoldier but not enough to hurt him.
The other horseman finds himself in a similar predicament.
He, too, is slain and the Liossans advance toward the burning barricade.
With the only ladder down taken these spearmen of the Steel Legion jump safely onto the grain cart. Their brothers watch from the wall.
The ballista is loaded.
But the shot is off the mark once more.
The rangers and cavalry set up to defend the docks from the newly arrived Aethannians.
The last crossbowman find their marks.
They slay an footsoldier. A very successful parry saves the man in the foreground.
The crossbows retreat off the wall.
Ancelot issues his orders.
They are relayed down the line.
Ancelot charges with a few of his men toward their right flank. "For Vasluxia!!"
One Liossan dies while a parry saves the other. Ancelot tries to toss down the ladder but is unable.
The rest of the infantry prepare to make a stand at the gates of the Keep.
The ballista is wheeled toward the dock but it can't get far enough to fire at the arriving raiders.
The ladies take cover inside the strong tower.
The citizens make a mad rush to the mill with varying amounts of success.
Three of them are lost to panic.
(Now that the enemy is inside the walls the citizens will have to succeed on a sanity check to act (2+))
The raiders make landfall.
They make up as much ground as they can. That citizen is slain but I guess I didn't photograph it.
The state of the field.
Send orders for turn 5!!

This is so friggin' awesome.
The defenders look to be in a tough spot, though that fiery barrier may turn out difficult to cross. It seems they're out-ranged so I'm not sure if they'll be able to hold that position. Very interested to see how this will develop.

That old-style ballista with the white-cone-ended-spears? That looks REALLY familiar! You've modified it from the original, but I think I still have the plans for that somewhere in my instruction manual boxes...
Seriously though, this is what castle SHOULD be! Lots of chaos, lots of destruction, lots of siege engines!

Either you get all of your men brutally murdered, or you brutally murder all the opposition. Either way, the plan has worked.
The only thing this battle is missing is the Bull(ie)s!

Turn 5 has been photographed but I’m having serious technology issues so it may still be a while before it is posted. I appreciate everyone’s patience.

Re: The New War - Turn 4
I have news!
Like I said, turn 5 is photographed but I’m still unable to post. Because this issue is becoming quite long term I went ahead and ran the battle another turn and completed a small epilogue. I need the battle space for other projects so unfortunately this is the result. I’m sorry to end it this way and I still don’t have a timetable for posting the final turn. I appreciate everyone being cool about it, though.
Also some extra props to ninja_bait for his orders. They were clear, complete, and extremely clever (The 3 C’s). Probably the best of any forum battle I’ve run or been a part of.
Thanks to everyone who participated and enjoyed. See you on the next one.

Re: The New War - Turn 4
There were varying degrees of success and failure on all sides. Militarily, Vasluxia was soundly beaten back and their fortress was taken but they successfully extracted their VIPs and handed the Liossans stunning losses until the bitter end.ninja_bait wrote:Alas!
