They advance. Since the ballista can already fire anything(it's a size 2 launcher) the hero uses his feat to have himself and all 3 operators combine their skill on the ballista, adding overskill to give it more range.

My men were at a wooden gate to the castle and my hero had brute cliche. I think I won.
