Factions of Elkoss UPDATED SEPT 5 2013

Relevant Wiki Article Elkoss
I shared a lot of this about a year ago, I don't really do this as a hobby anymore, I've updated a few things and made a few additions. But the overall change in my things has been the overall theme. Instead of space faring factions, I've changed the overall theme to a "Post Apocalpyse" theme, But not in the sense of a bunch of scrapmetal tanks and poorly constructed homemade guns. But more like they're in the rebuilding stage of post-nuked to shit civilization *An example being the Video game Fallout: New Vegas", I chose to not bother giving much complexity into the themes or names of these armies because they're all from an ambigious region of an unknown planet, I just can't be bothered to make up names for this stuff anymore

If anyone still remembers my old TLDR threads, they'd recall that instead of having one large army, I had about a dozen, five or six of which were of signifigant size. I'll show the largest one first.

Quick Backstory *Refer to the Wiki article, much of this below was written before I even had names for everything*
The War between the former Elkossian Federal Republik and the Peach Barbarians took a turn for the worst when the Peaches pushed the frontlines into the homeland, The Old World Government decided to Nuke both the Peach homeland, But the Peach armies were still charging toward the capital, and the Government resorted to bombing it's own territory to wipe the land clean, Unfortunatley they resorted to experimental WMDs which caused damage on a titanic scale, Effectivley wiping out civilization across the country and planet, except for small areas spared from the devastation.

50 Years later, The largest minifig population center is on the planet's largest Continent It encompasses Cities, Mountains, Forests, Deserts, Plains Regions, as well as Wasted Badlands. The Population centre however is fractured by as many as a dozen Post-Collapse Superpowers, City States and Autonomous Regions, All with different Goals, Ideologies and levels of power, Because of the devastation of the Great War, The way in which these Factions conduct war has changed signifigantly, The Majority of militaries consist of foot soldiers, Fuel is Precious, and is normally only used for military and industrial purposes, So Combat vehicles are only used in pivotal engagements. A new technology that the post-collapse world has created for war however is the combat drone. Drones were small enough to be able to run off Solar power, and were a much cheaper alternative to crewed vehicles. Crewed Vehicles was mostly limited to APCs and very large combat vehicles after the implementation of Unmanned Vehicles, Also known as Drones.

The "Triangle Wars" Began when preachers of the Great Triangle Society came in contact with the Dominion, and attempted to convert the locals, The Dominion responded by slaughtering the Preachers and invading the lands they came from. Other Regional powers entered the fray on various fronts against the Dominion and against each other

Again, These faction names will seem generic, I've given up trying to give them fancy names because while I put a lot of time into building these armies, I'm not -that- passionate about them anymore

The first I will feature is the Dominion.
DominionThere can be no peace in this world without order, We will subdue, or destroy those who oppose Order
Inspirations - Planetside 2's Terran Republic, Killzone's Helghan Nation, Fallout's Caesar's Legion, Real life Roman Empire. Fallout's Enclave
Containing much of the old country's Military heritage. The Dominion is Effectivley the Remnants of the Old World Government. However in the new post-collapse world. The Dominion and it's Leadership is obsessed with Control, Order, and Military Expansionism, Outsiders dismiss the Dominion as nothing more than a Bloated harem. As when it was founded, it functioned with a number of councillors, But Now it has a single self proclaimed Emperor at the head of it. They aim to create a post-collapse Utopia, But will use every asset of Authoritarian Brutality at it's disposal to repel it's enemies, and keep it's minifig populace productive and obedient.

The Dominion places heavy emphasis on Military power, no known post-collapse power can match it in brute strength or numbers. The Dominion Army is Organized, Professional, yet conventional. It's Primary doctrine is Brute Strength through Heavy armor and Overwhelming Numbers. The sheer weight of the Dominion's Military power has ended many wars with neighboring autonomous regions, before they even started.

Now what you opened this thread for. A lot of these are unmodified Star wars minifigs, I never bothered to change a lot of them because I liked the way they looked, and I couldn't make them into something I liked, without drastically reducing their numbers through canniballizing, So I just assigned the various SW figs different roles based on their numbers and appearance. Their Vehicles are all Custom though, Except for a bunch of bikes, which are never used anyway

*POLL NOTE - If I host a forum battle, it's going to be a sad knockoff of brikwars, it Will follow a simple forumla, each player will just give vague orders, Move there attack that do that etc, I will provide the "rulebook" so that participants can see how the specifics of the battle works and such, I'd personally rather host a forum battle than just a random game where I control everything,

Also, the "visitors" are a minor faction, but in terms of size, they are the second largest *may be surpassed by NR pending the arrival of my recent PickABrick parts order, Visitors are mostly SW Droids and random aliens anyway.

For a clone army, this is really badass.

Eh, If I had the parts I would have just made them all like the Stormtrooper and Scouttrooper bodies with white helms/black visors, but obviously didnt have the parts.
White is the only army I have that is Star wars Clones, I've actually removed the peach heads from a lot of them, It's made some kind of creepy totem

The "new additions" were basically the drones and I got a couple more of those Clone commandos or whatever they're called *the ones that are white and red*

I don't really buy this stuff anymore. I'm too far away from any possible Brikwars enthusiasts to play a game with anyone else, and even if I was. I don't even understand the rules of the game. Years ago when I did have friends who did this sort of thing with me, we just made up our own simplified wargame.

Instead of having pictures all over the place, I'm going to do it one army per post, and if I add new pictures I'll just add a new post to announce that.

Last time I did this I had the problem of having like 6 threads, then I made Wiki pages, and it was all TLDR so I just abandoned it.

I agree with Samuelzz10's sentiment. This army feels good enough that you don't think of the infrantry as stormtroopers.

Those Medium battle tanks are also cool.

Updated, Dominion is now complete. Missing two pictures but they're not important, one was a side-view of the big tank, the other was just some stock model police cars and cheap utility vehicles *seriously the utility vehicles are only 7 pieces, are they really worth showing?*

Next will be the NR, New Republic, AKA Black Army.

I'm actually giving some strong consideration into spraypainting a number of extra minifig parts black, so that I can buff the numbers of the NR, I've already got a bunch of plain black *non painted* figs in that army, and it's signature vehicle is spraypainted as well

*Note this faction and page are due for a major revamp, pending the arrival of a Lego store order*

New Republic The Old Government Failed Minifig Kind, We can do better
Inspirations -Fallout New Vegas' New California Republic, Planetside 2's New Conglomerate, Killzone's ISA

Founded by the union of several City states in the north, The New Repulic *NR* shares the Dominion's goal of rebuilding Society, but their similarities stop there. The NR follows the old world philiosphies of the rule of law, Democracy and Liberty. A free society, The NR Makes the most of what it has. Instead of expanding it's borders, it solidifies them, allowingit's figs to rebuild a prosperous civilization safely and freely. The NR is run by a President and a Council, with the latter making the actual decisions and the former meerly acting as the head representative.

While nowhere near the size of the Dominion Military, the NR Military keeps them at bay with a Solid Defensive doctrine, Using a variety of Guardsmen Infantry, Emplaced Artillery, Tough Combat Drones and Hardened APCs. Their strategy is to absorb the enemy assault and wear them down until they give up and go home.

Hardened APC and Heavy APC, The Hardened APC is unarmed and slow, but is essentially a mobile bunker, if it recieves too much damage it can wreck it's wheels and pop it's top, becoming a static defense and annoying roadblock at the same time, while the Heavy APC is a much more conventional design complete with a HMG, And is actually of higher grade than the Dominion's Equivalent.
Spoiler
Show
Image
NR Strikers, Instead of fielding expensive fuel hogging Battle tanks, the NR has designed an innovative and very effective Drone Tank, While weaker than a Dominion Medium Tank, it is easier and cheaper to produce, and does not require fuel, Just a Solar Charge, and a steady command signal. The latter being it's biggest weakness, If the signal is jammed or disrupted, or if Relay vehicles are destroyed, the drones can become little more than a liablility, Note that the Striker on the right is not of polished form, but is still functional all the same
Spoiler
Show
Image
NR Striker X2 Prototype, Roughly a quarter larger, boasting somewhat stronger armor and better protection to critical systems, As well as Unmatched mobility, The X2 is a Hover tank running off the same unmanned remote controlled drone platform as it's predecessor, While virtually superior in every category to the Striker, the X2 Is costly to manufacture and is not necessarily designed for the same kind of combat the NR is accustomed to, being a better candiadte for offensive roles. Nonetheless X2s are normally deployed alongside their wheeled counterparts to add extra toughness and punch to striker columns. The X2's key weakness however is it's rear propulsion engine, If damaged or destroyed the X2 will lose control and be rendered immobile and useless. So X2 Operators are trained to keep the X2's front facing the enemy at all times. Being a hovertank it can strafe side to side, to keep it's front facing forward.

I've been thinking of doing a Forum battle, but the problem is I don't in the slightest understand the core BW rules anymore, I always played with a simplified knockoff version ruleset that friends and I made up about 6-7 years ago

I'd join. I only have a basic understanding as of yet of the rules(despite actually reading them), but i'm always up for some strategic insanity!

I'll get the info and pictures out for the other teams, and the playspace I have available, And then I'll let you know.

I'll also have to make a rulebook, really won't matter because in a forum battle it will pretty much just be (Send these guys here, shoot those guys there, take poop here, etc*

Okay, I am well known for not really liking the overuse of SW figs in peoples armies but it is a case of whatever you have at hand at the time - so I will forgive you once.

AND ONLY ONCE.

However, this tank is effing sexy.

What piece is that at the end of the turret, and what set does it come from?

if it weren't for the SW battle builder kits or whatever they're called, I wouldnt have been able to get the quantity of minifigs

I'm thinking of making an order from the pick a brick set, some white helmets, and some black parts.

also the barrel peice is from a soccer kit , can't remember which one though

I'm going to make an order from that pick-a-brick thing, Mostly it's just going to affect my black army, I'm going to get the parts to make at least 25 "guardsmen", specifically like the ones in the second last NR picture for troops.

I think what I'll do is just get 25 black policeman bodies, spraypaint the hands only, and get some blank black sticker shit and apply them to the bodies.
I tried spraypainting half a dozen scrap figs and they turned out terrible, all bubbly and shit, and their arms are hard to move. I think my paint was bad.

I'm also going to get about 20-25 white helmets, and some visors for them too, I'll try spraypainting a few visors and see how I like them, Pick a brick doesn't offer black visors, only two shades of clear.

I really don't know what to do about my white guys though, I want to make them less SW'ish, but at the same time their mediocrity has grown on me. As in, I no longer think of snowtroopers and scouttroopers as sw dudes, I just found them different uses,

anyway, if I go through with this, the Black/NR will grow by about 30 minifigs. Black, White, and the "Visitors"
Spoiler
Show
Who are literally just a zerg of SW battle droids, Assorted Robots, and Aliens
will be my main, largest 3, the Reds, Blues and Greens will be the mid-tiers, and everything else will be bottom tier, in terms of size and such

No pictures right now because im not home.

Building up these armies again when I told myself i was done with lego, I'm gonna have to start doing forum battles or something, My camera is pretty shitty though, even for a sony, so we'll see.

Spraypaint is only good for glued display pieces, not anything you plan to pose and play with, for all the reasons you mentioned. The better bet is vinyl die.
