More Space Viking stuff

Postby OneEye589 » Mon Feb 22, 2010 7:10 pm

(Sorry for photo quality ahead of time. I can't tell how fuzzy they are until they're on the computer, and I'm very lazy.)

The basic Space Viking infantry carries Czech-Republik style assault rifles and are composed of many different races
Heavy weapons troopers (same as regular troopers)
The viking Jarl (Hero in center) and the regular officers
Space Viking weaponry. Top row: Assault rifle, heavy assault rifle, gauss sniper rifle, rapier, battle axe. Bottom row: Bazooka fuel-rod cannon, grenade, MKI missile, MKII missile.

When I made the Space Vikings, I thought it would be kind of cool to make their vehicles and weapons look like something worn down, heavy metal, and like what the vikings would actually use if they were alive today. I came up with the "Steed" as a replacement for a horse or cavalry.

The "Steed" Speeder Bike

Armed with underslung machine guns and a MKII missile
I have enough pieces to make four identical speeder bikes
The four "Steeds" escorting the "Longboat"

Also, what could be more awesome than a giant-like viking hardsuit lumbering across the battlefield, surrounded by cannon fodder? Not much. I present the "Wilhelm" Class Hardsuit, armed with an assault cannon and MKII missile.

The "Wilhelm" is about twice as tall as a regular minifig. It's a little more agile than a regular fig though, and much tougher
I think I may add some jump jets on the back of the hardsuit

No...

Space Vikings win.

This has got to be the best medium sized army I've seen in a long time...

Oh, and one thing that sells it- IDENTICAL SPEEDERS.

Wilhelm is a bit of a forboding name. It implies a horrible death.

Thanks guys. I've been working on this army for quite a while.

I got the name "Wilhelm" from the name "William." My ancestor is William the Conqueror, so I thought it kind of fit.

Here's the link to the Longboat's thread, too: http://www.brikwars.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=4070

EDIT: I just added some jump-jets to the hardsuits.

Whoa, awesome. The Steed bikes were probably my favorites with the hardsuits and hero close behind.

I love the way how you made space vikings without putting horns on everything.

Hardsuits are the best, remind me of heavy gear. The Jarl is nice as well. Though I think they're awesome most don't really have a viking look to me though, I'd remove the alien heads and create a gun with an axe on it for the troops. Makes them more dangerous too, while you're at it.

Thanks, the Jarl is kind of a play off of the Vol and their heavy armor. I do have a black one of those armors, but I wanted it to go along with the officers more.

As for them being not so much like vikings, the idea is that they are equivalent to the vikings in history, or closest to it in space. It's like space pirates; they don't have a collaboration of pirate hats, wooden legs, and stolen clothing as their get-up, they have big clunky helmets/hats, robotic implants, and stolen space suits. The space pirates don't use rapiers and one-shot pistols, but they do use assault rifles and beamswords.

Same deal with the space vikings, but a little bit more to the historical look (or as close as you can get in space). They all have the chainmail armor, weapons with bullets as opposed to lazer weapons, and gigantic axes for close combat weapons.

Fantastic army concept and awesome implementation of it. Only the hardsuits look somewhat out of place. But I do not understand the fascination with hardsuits in the first place anyway...

I agree with Blackdogs speederbike and hardsuit comments. I also find the weapons to be quite alluring too. Great stuff Oneeye.
