I don't think deletion teaches people anything. Ripping the merciless pish out them until they cry and go home, or get banned does sort of set and example.

@Natalya: Ok, that sounds reasonable about the dumping on the dumb thread but I've been drinking since knocking off time so I'm blagged out my gord. :D

If the guys getting deleted were capable of learning I probably wouldn't be deleting them in the first place.  I think of it more as historical revisionism, so that when people lurk through past threads they think "wow everyone used to be so cool, they didn't act like idiots the way they do now."

Threads should be conserved for prosperity, and perhaps for their evidential value should things get to the stage where prison sentences are being handed out.
