your first metal song

Postby motorhead fan » Mon Mar 10, 2014 1:01 pm

i'm talking about the one that, as a child, tore you away from the world of pop and threw you into the world of headbanging and stuff

For me it was Deep Purple-Perfect Strangers

Honestly it was either The Trooper by Iron Maiden or Trogdor.

Probably Crazy Train.

The first metal band I got into was Rammstein though.

My dad was an audio engineer before going into circuitry design and who knows what the fuck else, so as kids we had all these giant custom-built speakers in the house. We figured out how to pull the felt covers off and up until middle school we'd hide inside the subwoofers when we played hide-and-seek; that's how big they were. Nobody ever blasted the sound system when somebody else was hiding inside the speaker, I'm sad to report.

(He sold those speakers when I was in high school. Now he has even bigger ones.)

Anyway the end result of that is that I didn't even know there was a kind of music other than metal until I got to college. It was the eighties though, so there really wasn't any other music to speak of. What passed for pop back then couldn't be called music.

I don't remember my first metal song because I was too young. But in kindergarten I wrote that my favorite bands were Quiet Riot and Twisted Sister.

dear metal, go die in a hole, I'd listen to Miley Cyuris before I'd listen to metal, and Miley Cyuris makes my ears bleed

And who pray tell is this "Miley Cyuris" you speak of?

Seriously, don't discriminate against music. Even joke genres have something to contribute. I for one listen to everything but country and gospel, and they aren't even painful to listen to, I just don't listen to them in my free time. I know I'm speaking to you brikguy, but take some time out of your day to try out some new music. By the end of the day, you'll have found something you like.

Maybe you just aren't ready for grown-up metal. You should start with easy stuff. Like BABY METAL.

Ha, a Kindergartener listening to Love's a Bitch is the funniest thing I can think of.

My metal evolution went something like this:

Boston (has a few songs I would consider metal, Smoking=Traditional and Foreplay=Progressive but I'll stop there because I know I've already pissed off everyone)
Queen (not metal (except a few early songs, like Ogre Battle) but deepened my appreciation for music)
KISS (Most wouldn't consider metal, but I do)
Everything else (except nu, black, death, and a few other sub-genres)

Living proof that music is music and that it can be meshed and combined in any way shape or form.
