[HH] Second Contact, Spec Ops Ambush

Since Batman's failed attack on a Venetian Patrol, Il Doge has ordered preparations for a full scale invasion, beginning with a special operations team taking a Kalmar Starbase for use as a beachhead. Unfortunately, the great Batman got a critical success on his detective check and found out about the spec ops raid. He then ambushed them and their Space Mafia contacts.

Overwatch of the field, 15 v 15 with 2d10 worth of explosives and one vehicle each. Venice wins initiative.

First blood is scored against a Kalmar regular.

The Venetian hero, Captain Matt McMuscles, boards the minichopper with a Squidhead Mafiosi and flies over to where the Kalmar buggy is.

The chopper takes out the pilot with some flick fire studs.

And the Squid Mafiosi chops the head off the guy on the back, stealing the buggy wholesale.

The chopper lands right on a clump of Kalmar infantry, forcing them to bail. The pilot and hero dismount after a failed attack. (I think another Kalmar regular died to infantry fire in the background)

Captain McMuscles flies back to his battle lines and throws the switch on his back.

This detonates the two remote bombs inside the chopper, killing 4 more Kalmar shock troops and disrupting the rest. Also, the fire alarm in the building we were battling in went off, forcing a time-out until the fire died down.

Kalmar Turn

Batman starts his turn by hijacking the surprisingly still intact chopper, flying it over enemy lines before bailing.

The Helicopter's MOM kills a troop during the crash, while the others bail and are disrupted.

The Kalmar RPG trooper crit-fails his skill roll and tries a rocket jump.

He survives the damage, disrupted, and no one is hurt when the extra RPG detonates a few inches away.

A Kalmar soldier fails to execute the disrupted pilot.

Venice Turn 2
Image
Overwatch at the start of the Venetian turn, disrupted units having gotten up and movements having happened.

A shotgun commando takes out a regular.

The railgunner takes out another.

Captain McMuscles tries to pick Batman with his Scissors Bayonet, but Batman slips out of his grasp and escapes unscathed.

Kalmar Turn 2

Batman tries to kill the chopper pilot, but falls to a counter outside redshirt range.

As always, Batman dies with a smile. :)

A redshirt takes the bullet for Captain McMuscles.

The last remaining heavy kills the Squidhead and takes back the buggy.

He uses this buggy to avenge Batman, taking out the bothersome pilot.

Venice Turn 3

The ex-RPG trooper gets taken out on the ground. Other attacks fluff or miss.

Kalmar Turn 3

The last infantry takes the uber-coward's way out, escaping to warn the starbase of the attack.

The last Mando stands his ground, wanting to die a hero's death holding off the enemy.

Venice Turn 4
Image
Everyone fails to break through the Mando's armor.

Kalmar Turn 4
Image
The Mando takes a swing at Matt, but a redshirt saves the day.

Finally, the Railgun officer gets an overskill and blows the Mando's head clean off.

EPILOGUE PART 1
The Spec-Ops squad succeeds in taking the Starbase, giving the Police State a gateway into the soft underbelly of the Kalmar Union. But what happened to the escaped trooper?

EPILOGUE PART 2

The trooper sprints down the corridors, hoping to get there in time to hold off the starbase getting taken.

I really like how you got the skeleton into a whole ton of the shots.

I think while it's not necessarily a direct improvement, but the larger scale definitely makes this battle stand out better when compared to its predecessor.

I liked this battle a lot. This series between Kalv and Scratch has been very entertaining. I also found the not-so subtle photobombing skeleton funny.
