Good Natured Violence
This was going to be my HH entry last October, but then there was a theme and it didn't fit anymore. So here's the report, finally uploaded. My write up wasn't super great because I remember thinking, "I don't need to write much, I'll know what's going on." And, naturally, I don't remember very much so there's lots of bits and pieces I don't understand.
Two armies have banded together in defense of a small border town. Their positions have been set, the lines have been drawn.
The townsfolk have their own place in the line.
A great hero stands amidst his men, flanked by his Guard.
They peer out, towards their foe.
The Grek line prepares for their assault.
Ares anchors their center with Enyo and the Mermaidons. With them are some archers and a new Automaton, courtesy of Hephaestus.
Their left is held by a War Elephant and some engineers.
The battle begins.
The Grek right advances as far as it is able.
The Ballista prepares a long shot.
The Elephant charges in fury and rage.
As it does, an archer atop the beast shoots a foe.
Everyone bails successfully out of the way and the elephant destroys a hut.
Ares and Enyo follow.
The Mermaidons scramble over the rocks.
The engineers and gladiators come out into the open.
The Dragon commander decides to trust his armour.
He awaits the falling bolt.
The Guard and Great Hero attack the Elephant, but can't do any damage.
An archer snipes a Mermaidon.
Everyone turns on the Elephant, collectively dealing heavy damage.
Two men engage Ares in a stalemate.
An archer rolls a weapon into place, but the first attack doesn't damage the Elephant.
Some civilians arm themselves at their smithys.
They prepare their defense while an archer gets a kill.
The state of the battle.
The bolt comes down, slamming into the Dragon Commander's shield.
Damage is poor, but many are disrupted.
The Greks advance.
Archers move into position while the ballista reloads.
They make a pincushion out of Ares' foe.
Enyo impales an enemy.
Ares makes a similar move behind her.
Men charge.
The momentum carries one through a smithy.
The other Greks advance.
From atop the Elephant, an archer scores another kill.
The Elephant gores the Hero's Guard.
The Dragons reform their line.
Incredible overskill on the part of a Dragon archer beheads two Greks.
Others discover a portable weapon.
A wild jump feat occurs.
It fails, but a Guard hacks off a tusk.
An axeman kills Enyo.
He hides and his ally shoots down a Grek archer.
Ares is surrounded by blows but his armour holds out.
The eye in the sky can't get his shot to hit.
Archers shoot down the Elephant captain.
Their brethren below butcher a Grek.
Men advance over the lifeless body towards the stalemate at the front.
The state of the battle.
An archer brings the elephant under control while the other archer misses his shot.
Other arches kill a foe while the Automaton fails to hit anything. Beside them, the ballista misses its shot.
Ares fails a feat and his spear is broken.
He crit-fails immediately after and drops his sword.
On the Grek left, a townsman is slain.
Mermaidons team up to kill a foe.
The Grek right engages but cannot deal any damage.
The Dragons launch themselves into the fray.
They score a kill.
The support weapon is brought closer.
The Hero completes his Heroic Leap onto the elephant, but the attack fails. His archer brother is able to score a kill.
An axeman kills a Grek archer.
Ares' armour holds out against blows and an arrow.
The townspeople's archers kill the last Grek on the elephant.
Two Greks are felled by blows.
The townsfolk advance.
State of the field.
Grek spears kill one in the melee.
The Axeman is slain by an arrow.
A ballista bolt kills a Dragon.
A townsperson is killed.
Mermaidons kill another.
Ares performs his own jump feat to engage the Hero, but neither can cause any harm.
The Hero hits Ares with a powerful overskill.
It knocks them both off guard.
The elephant does nothing cool in its rampage. Meanwhile, the catapult archer uses this opportunity to line up a shot.
The two rounds kill the elephant.
An archer crit-fails and drops his bow in horror.
A crossbowman slams into the automaton and damages it.
Soon after, the citizen archers shoot it to pieces.
They pour from their line and attack.
One is killed on a counter.
State of the battle.
End of part 1 because I'm tired. I'll post the rest soon.

Re: Good Natured Violence
Part 2!
The ballista lines up another shot.
It smokes an armoured Dragon, while some spears combine to kill the other. To their left, other Greks skewer an axeman.
This crossbowman is slain.
Ares and a captain kill a citizen.
Ares then leaps onto the tower but nothing interesting occurs.
The last Mermaidon on the Grek left takes a tactical retreat.
The Guard prepares to throw his axe while the Hero advances in the background.
It barely misses.
The Dragon left makes another push.
They score a kill.
This archer tries to divebomb the captain, but his MOM can't get the best of the captain's POP so they remain as shown.
Another archer takes a good shot but can't do enough damage.
The townsfolk archers and Ares stare at each other in stalemate.
The melee below them is similarly stalled.
The citizens begin to flank.
The state of the field.
Engineers grab weapons and advance, as they've used the last of their bolts.
A Grek archer hits a good shot.
Three Grek Spears hit their marks.
These Mermaidons have similar success, but the captain is still in a stalemate.
Ares' feat fails and he drops his sword, so he shoves this archer off the tower. He is only disrupted.
Three weapons prepare to fire.
The crossbows take one.
And the ballista another.
By some miracle, this Mermaidon is not killed by two foes.
For some reason this archer walked away but I cannot remember why.
The stalemate continues, but a crossbowman manages to damage Ares.
The captain is slain.
Here come the townspeople.
State of the battle.
Atop the pile of bodies, a Dragon is killed by arrow fire.
The crossbows are engaged and one is killed.
The Guard is killed.
Ares finally succeeds on a feat.
And bashes the two archers together.
He admires his handiwork.
Another line of defense is prepared.
The Hero fails his feat and drops his hammer.
So apparently he leaves and hangs out with the archer from earlier??
A Mermaidon is decapitated.
The state of the field.
With their Hero's capitulation, the inevitable occurs.
They prepare for the final struggle.
So, naturally, Ares just appears there.
The lone Mermaidon kills his foe.
The citizens reach the new battle line.
The Mermaidon sprints from behind them, enraged or something. I probably had something really cool written up for this, but for the life of me I can't remember.
A great melee ensues.
A citizen is slain, behind them a Grek archer misses and kills his own engineer.
The scrum continues.
A young lad is killed by a Grek.
The Mermaidon falls dead, as does one of the heavily armed citizens.
But Ares finishes him off.
Ares stands in the slaughter field, admiring the day's work.
What a beautiful sight.
What a time to be alive.
The last survivors stride away.
Final battle Overwatch.

Pretty valiant defense so far. That Grek spear wall looks formidable though. Then again, when aren't spear walls formidable?

Excellent photography, especially the periodic scans of the battlefield. For a moment I thought the townsfolk would repel those democratic Greks...
