[HH] Blood in the Harbor
A sunny day in the small harbor town of Wercestshire.
The Dragon Guard provides security for the town in this time of war.
A duck toodles around an idyllic pond, the bustle of normal, everyday life carrying on around it.
A jester entertains two guards while a young lad tries to woo a young lass.
Nearby, one of the Guard Captains speaks to a Dragon Rider on his way to the next city.
The other captain, the most senior, schmoozes with a drink surrounded by his bodyguards.
A woman tends to lunch, hungry citizens and guards gathering around.
Guards on the dock sing out a song of danger.
Ships bearing foes have suddenly appeared in the harbor!
The stage is set.
The largest ship draws toward the dock and the fight is on.
The guard draws first blood, knocking a foeman back into his ship.
The guard, a man with a young wife waiting anxiously at home, is cut down after his initial success.
The other is attacked by a Knight in Golden Armour, but the strike is parried effectively.
From a nearby boat, an archer takes aim. His aim is poor, however.
With the momentum from his craft an officer brings down the guard.
Another boat glides narrowly towards the shore.
The last craft lands its men onto the dock.
The senior officer, alarmed at this turn of events, ditches his drink and arms himself.
He hustles towards the foe.
No longer entranced by the jester, two guards move to defend the town.
A crossbowman kills an invader.
A townsperson attends to the ballista near his shop.
The bolt hits the craft, but does nothing.
He arms himself with nearby armour.
The young couple hides and watches the ballista crew.
The woman in charge of lunch tosses the table to create a sense of dramatic tension.
Behind her, the guard rushes to the battle in front of their captain.
The dragon takes to the sky, his brothers readying their weapons below.
He flies to battle.
On the southern flank the enemy unloads onto the shore, engaging the townsperson.
The townsman is killed easily, heavy boots treading over his fresh blood.
The invaders on the northern flank make their way inland.
With the way cleared, the invading raiders charge down the dock.
The catapult on the ship blows away a crossbowman.
The battle is underway.
One guard is shot and the other is cut down by the blade of an officer's axe.
The defender's only have one shot...
They make it count, bringing down two of their foes.
The guard moves with a purpose, closing in on the invading foe.
The townspeople join the advance.
The bannerman and gunner struggle to join the fight.
The dragon rider lowers his spear with speed...
And obliterates his target.
As he makes to turn around, the dragon takes arrows and a catapult round. The beast is injured.
One of the ballista operators dies with an arrow in his gut.
The battle continues.
Still not giving up hope of wooing his beloved, the young lad pulls out his phone. "Hey, do you know what day it is?"
"It's Friday the 13th!"
The idyllic lake bubbles with malevolance. Skeletons rise from the disturbed water.
A ghostly ghoul rises from the center, surrounded by his skeletal minions.
The senior captain leads his men to engage the new threat.
Three skeletons fall to pieces to sword blows.
The lines clash in the shadow of the bell tower.
The brilliantly gilded officer is cut down by the guard.
The crossbowman cannot find his mark and begins to weep, his life a blur.
The dragon, enraged, attacks an archer.
The beast rips the man to shreds.
The gunner sets up his weapon and cranks it into gear. The weapon's barrels make a full rotation before jamming.
When the smoke clears three skeleton's bones lie in the dust.
Townspeople advance while the constable leads a charge on the north.
Both arches fail to hit the charging townspeople.
The two forces trade kills in the scrum.
Another round of attacks wounds the dragon again, pulling it closer to death.
The young people are beset upon by skeletons.
The results are predictable and gross.
A skeleton rebuilds his fallen brother.
Another skeleton fells a bodyguard.
The battles rages on.
The crossbowman, already having a minor breakdown over his previous failures, misses again.
A guardsman and his captain slay one invader each.
With revenge on his mind, the senior officer brings his sword staff down on a skeleton, but his can't harm it.
The other bodyguard engages the ghostly ghoul.
He regrets his decision quickly, a blade piercing his body.
His life flees his body and he tumbles on the other side of the pond.
The bannerman tries a similar move, but he pays for it with his head.
The dragon seperates an archer from his legs.
More skeletons are rebuilt.
The captain finishes off his foe as it tries to bite through his armour.
Skeletons advance into the town.
The constable kills an archer and the townsperson behind him grabs the bow.
The townspeople advance.
The last archer in the north, seeing the writing on the wall, retreats to a weapons stockpile and grabs a sword. The writing said, "You're a terrible shot."
The catapult crew launches another round, hitting the dragon.
It screams as it dies, tossing its rider into the harbor.
He is able to pull off his armour just before the water claims him.
The catapult crew, lacking targets, grabs axes off the ship.
The Golden Knight kills a guard just days before he was due to retire.
Officers clash in a flurry of blades and shields.
The guard's blade bites harder.
Invaders fill in the gap.
The battle continues.
The senior officer moves to attack the column of skeletons.
His blade stops on the first skull and does nothing.
More violence in the breach. Invaders fall to gaurdsman's blades.
The constable brings his blade to bear against the last archer.
He gets the worse end of the interaction.
The archer is quickly ganged up on but none of their weapons bite.
The crossbowman, failing again, sits in wallows in his sorrow.
The dragon rider grabs his helmet and shield out of the water and climbs ashore.
Now reladed, the gunner fires into the skeletons. The weapon jams quickly and the only skeleton hit shrugs off the hit easily.
The catapult operators arrive on the front.
A guard is brought down in a flurry of blows.
He cries out to the ghost of his daughters whom he will never see again.
The Golden Knight brings his axe around and cuts a townperson in two.
The gunner is tackled by two skeletons. His blood soaks the grass.
The senior officer is engaged by skeletons.
He sends one of them to the dust.
A skeleton rebuilds a legless brother while the ghastly ghoul attacks the senior officer.
He finds himself on the wrong end of a sword staff.
The battle rages still, blood and bones coating the grass.
With the ghostly ghoul gone, the skeletons crumble into piles of bones and dust.
With the skeletons gone, the senior officer jumps into the breach. Both captains kill their foes.
After many failures, the crossbowman finally gets a kill.
While his friends struggle to fight with the archer, a townsperson misses with his new bow.
The dragon rider picks up an oar and hits an invader with it.
He is killed easily by a real weapon.
After the abyssmal miss, the invader cuts down the townsperson.
Another one is killed by the archer, leaving only the lunch lady and her vicious carrot.
The jester, using his mystical magics to hide during the fight, sees an opportunity to take off.
The catapult operators bring their axes against the guard captains.
One of them is successful.
The other is not.
The senior officers tries to retreat to a better position.
The sassy but fair lunch lady is cut down.
The crossbowman decides to remain quiet and let the enemy forget he's even there.
The remaining raiders engage the fleeing officer.
The captain, experienced in the ways of war, is able to survive for a time. He expertly removes a man's head from his shoulders.
His luck doesn't hold out much longer.
The jester escapes, vowing revenge on the Golden Knight and the rest of his raiding clan.
The victorious foeman help themselves to the feast left by the guard, blissfully unaware of the cowardly crossbowman.
The battle ends. Blood and gore soak into the dirt and lives cry out from beyond the grave for justice.

The theme of this battle was, "Dienekes needs better lighting and a new camera."

I'm honestly surprised that the dragon knights did as well as they did.
That was an epic battle!

Re: [HH] Blood in the Harbor
Gameplay : 5/5
(Totally digging the combination of land, air and naval units in that one. Nice varied map layout.)
Photography : 4/5
(It could have benefited from better lighting but at least most pics illustrate the action quite well)
Violence : 5/5
(High kill count and blood sparkles all around, me likey!)
Writing : 4/5
(Captions show p much what's going on. More snappy dialogues wouldn't hurt, tho.)
Overall Appeal : 4.5/5
(Great terrain pieces and nice use of the theme, even if it might have been a bit too close to last year's theme.)

Loved the navel-side to this battle. Crownies swooping in and decimating the early defenses was exciting to watch. Gameplay-wise, I was really only disappointed that the dragon rider couldn't get a kill with the oar. You've already acknowledged this, but the photography could use a bit of sprucing up, probably with better lighting and such as Duerer had said. An ossum battle overall!
