Struggle for Brickingrad - Turn 0 [HH Winner 2017]

Here it is: Turn 0 of my HH contest entry! I've been more or less preparing for an entry I was happy with since joining five years ago, and here it is!

My signature has a link to all of the prologues I made to this battle, in case you care. Septic Springs is first, then Agent Plex, Forced Double Take and Project Vorare occur simultaneously.

This is gonna be super long with almost 1000 minifigs involved, so I'm gonna be submitting every turn in its own thread to prevent total confusion. Here we are at Turn 0, or the setup pictures for any new people...

Image

Brickingrad, one month after we last saw General Ecklen commanding the garrison of its protector, Fort Ridgeway.

The city was pulverized by the war. At the start it was the capitol of a minor, independent state that was overrun by the BNP. Later, Cherrie Ecklen's army group blew it to smithereens in a typhoon of flying steel, seeking to uproot its defenders to keep up the pace of their advance into BNP-occupied territory.

Now, though, it is being rebuilt. The minor nation's organization was gutted and destroyed, and the survivors have been given carte blanche to join with the Federalist Star Union. New settlers mingle with the original locals as construction contractors move in to hasten its rebuilding. Meanwhile the place crawls with military and police patrols on a constant vigil for counter attack or BNP sympathizers hidden among the public.

Image

The side of the town touching the water is the west, meaning that the side of the town with the blue-roofed house is the north.

Image

The Federalist Star Union flag, The Duality, defiantly faces eastward towards BNP controlled territory.

Image

East, beyond the city, Fort Ridgeway stands between Brickingrad and any conventional BNP offensive. It'll have to be taken first before ground troops can hit the city proper.

Image

In the center room of the fort, its commander, Field Marshall Mannerheim, has summoned one of his subordinate officers to provide a report after a massive object from space crashed east of the fort in no-man's land.

Speaking to the officer in the boonie hat, Mannerheim asks, "What was that noise, Major?"

"A solid object fell out of the sky, sir. It didn't behave like a real asteroid or meteor; the boys in space would've detected and destroyed it. We think it's of BNP origin. I've gone ahead and set the base to medium alert."

"Is it a missile that just missed us?"

"No sir. Satellites have detected heat signatures leaving it and heading for the fort! Looks like swarms of infantry, sir!"

"What? It must be some kind of new deployment weapon. And bypassed our defenses!

Major, report to me on the status of the base, now!"

Image

"Sir, the Nemoton Guard [left] and Pangou Militia [right] have been deployed to the east wall..." begins the Major.

Image

"...The Tlaxclas Jetterheads are getting hammered in the mess."

"That's alright; they seem to fight ferociously sober or not."

Image

The Major goes on. "Meanwhile the Neo-Cantons are having a fish fry in the kitchen-slash lounge."

"Get them ready," says the Field Marshall. "Now, what other forces are combat ready?"

Image

The Major goes on with detailing the combat trooper outside the fort.

"There's one squad each guarding the south and north side of Ridgeway. Your Arctic States contingent is on the north while the men of Durdedotte are watching the south."

Image

"All of our vehicles are outside the front gate, west of the fort. The troops from Berismirov are escorting them."

Image

"Lastly, the detachments from Leo Prime [left] and Pantarox [Right] are returning from a patrol to the north with the Mighty Mite tank in tow."

"That isn't last, Major; what about your Veridians?"

"Oh, yessir. My men and myself are ready for battle."

Image

"And what are we up against, Major?" asks Mannerheim.

"Satellites are monitoring about a hundred infantry pouring out of the fallen object and forming a mass headed our way."

"Let's be ready for them!"

"Yes sir!"

Image

As the army at Fort Ridgeway plans for battle, an ordinary day goes on inside of Brickingrad itself.

Image

On the southeast corner of the city a company of construction crewmen work on the newest building.

Image

At the north end the city's docks are guarded by Tithe Rangers, elite Tithe Infantry trained to fight against insurgents. Two squads have been deployed to protect the docks from BNP guerilla attack.

Image

Two trick-or-treaters go about looking for more candy while paramilitary police patrol the streets and a citizen repairs his truck.

Image

The city's new mayor meets with a tribal chieftain from a nearby people. They're meeting to discuss terms under which the tribe can come under Federalist protection as the BNP has destroyed their neutrality by harvesting their people for reasons unknown.

The chieftain knows hard and uncertain times are ahead. His people cannot stay aloof any longer in the war with the BNP's aggression lashing out in all directions as the Federalists advance on them, but siding with the FSU will mean the end of much of his people's culture.

Image

The Federal Marshal holding the anti-tank rifle speaks with the chief of police.

"McGranger!" begins the excited chief, "there's an emergency. Mannerheim over at Fort Ridgeway says they're about to be attacked from the east. Some kind of new drop technique just landed a hundred infantry outside the fort."

"Dear royalty! Are we ready to support the defense if they make it into the city?"

"Yes sir, everyone's on patrol now, our vehicles are up and running and the RAOTS have agreed to do one last search of the town."

"The RAOTS, huh? Lieutenant Rundstedt told me they'd found bits and pieces of intel on captured sympathizers about a plan to attack the town with guerillas. I'll bet that attack is supposed to support the assault on Ridgeway. Chief, inform the whole city garrison to be on the lookout for surprise attacks."

Image

Lieutenant Rundstedt, commander of the Brickingrad chapter of RAOTS, walks toward the bulk of his squad as two of his men flank him.

RAOTS stands for 'Rightful Agent Of The State.' When a male child is born outside of wedlock, and is devoid of any defects that would make them unfit to serve as soldiers, they are given this title: Rightful Agent Of The State. After their parents are spayed, neutered and sold off to do hard labor as punishment for the manufacture of bastards, the male offspring is not put up for adoption but is trained from infancy to act as a secret policeman, similarly to how Tithes are soldiers trained from infancy. Unlike Tithes, they're trained to hate the average citizen, not cherish and suffer for them.

RAOTS see the average Joe in terms of how likely they are to be seduced by the promises collectivist outsiders make. They are always suspicious, paranoid, and contemptuous. When the subversive situation in a region becomes too endemic and severe for conventional, moderate means to root it out, RAOTS are deployed in small cells called "chapters" to aggressively excise all turncoat citizens from society.

Image

RAOTS perform searches on some of the houses in Brickingrad as the city prepares to go into lockdown due to the BNP invasion.

Image

RAOTS care nothing for the day-to-day lives of ordinary folk, and think nothing of holding them at gunpoint while their brethren ransack their houses for anything that could incriminate them.

Image

On the northwest outskirts of Brickingrad, a lone civilian walks out into the wastelands

Image

He's gone to meet up with a platoon of BNP- sympathizing partisans poised to attack Brickingrad! A traitor!

"Liberation, comrades!" shouts the youth, "I was worried you'd never show!"

"Ah, it is you, Toiska," says the one with white hair in the center, "of course we have come. Allied Command has spent much time preparing for this attack. The revolution will be rescued by it. Today it is every true believer in naturalism's duty to fight for justice.

Now, do you have that map?"

"Of course, comrade!" says the youth excitedly as he hands the man a map showing the positions of the Federalist defenders in Brickingrad."

"Excellent...Yes, we will transmit this information to our comrades at sea and on the other side of town."

Image

Those comrades on the other side of town make their approach; a team of robotic commandos loaded to make a huge distraction and wreak havoc as Fort Ridgeway is attacked.

Image

Over the docks, on the Rangers notices the 'comrades at sea' that the partisan leader mentioned.

Image

A fleet of small, crude ships heads for Brickingrad's docks, aiming to seize them for reasons unknown...

Image

"Have at 'em, lads!" yells the buccaneer leader with the skull & bones hat, "Those party boys promised us this whole town to ourselves when they've taken it. All we gotta do is help them do it!"

The other buccaneers let out a great cheer of "Yarrgh!"

Image

As forces swirl around Brickingrad to soon turn it into a boiling cauldron of violence, a familiar looking group approaches the city from the southwest.

Image

"Trail leads us to this dump, Agent," says the Cancellor Minor leader with the white pauldron.

"Good," replies Agent Plex carrying the red sword, "I should have never paroled him to begin with. I ought to've just let you blast him when we had him."

"Everyone makes mistakes, Plex."

"Yes, but I can't afford to...Anyway, the security guys in this city are tearing this place apart, so if that punk's here we'll find him."

Image

As the group approaches the town, a drifter starts to make his way out of town.

"Hey," says the Cancellor Minor to Agent Plex, "checkout the glowie green thing that guys got. Looks like a-"

"BNP datacore!" exclaims Plex.

Image

"Huh?" says the drifter as he turns to face the Cancellor Major. "Oh...I don't want any trouble."

"Yeah. Citizen, where'd you get that item? That's a BNP-manufactured datacore you've got there."

"I-uh-I found it..."

"Liar. Save yourself and tell us the truth, lest we go searching for it in...artificial cavities we'll make in your body."

"Alright! I'm a smuggler. I buy stuff off the partisans every now and then. Last time around I smelled a double cross and decided to shoot first. I found this on them. Tried to open it a couple times already, but it's somehow encrypted.

I know it's all illegal. Look, I swear I never sold them weapons or peddled their propaganda crap! It's just they got such great prices-"

"You give me that thing and I'll forget I ever saw you. Just know that from now on, if you don't run the straight and narrow for the rest of your life...well..."

"No, no I get it. Here, take the thing."

The man passes along the datacore to Plex before leaving. With the technology in his suit, Plex unlocks the datacore and starts sharing the information with his squad.

"Oh...my...king..." says the lead Cancellor Minor as he starts to read it.

After reading all he needs to, Plex says, "we have to warn the Militia garrison over at Fort Ridgeway."

Image

"What is it?" asks one of the rank and file Cancellor Minors.

"A new BNP bio weapon. A special one. Short of nuking this place there's only one way to stop it, and we have to get this information to the local commanders."

Hi, I'm back, could you please clarify that it was in fact over 1 thousand figs and not over one hundred?

Because if it is... Wow.

It's somewhere close to 1000. I had said that originally. I'll be deploying more and more stuff as the turns go on. It's kind of an escalation scenario.

The reason I haven't submitted Turn 3 yet is because deploying all these extra guys is taking...a while.

Holy shit the size of this battle was impressive on it's own, but man I wish there was more blood! Probably a little nit-picky, since you'd need buckets of red pieces to compensate for the bodycount, but otherwise I thought this was a solid entry! The trick-or-treaters were a nice touch.

I assembled pretty much every red piece I had left but it ran out fast...
