The Immortal Incident on Medivo

Post by Zahru II » Thu Jul 29, 2010 12:24 pm

So, Warhead of Medivo felt the presence of the migthy Immortals, and reached out mentally, hoping to ally himself with them. However, the Immortals don't pick up just anybody: they sent a group of their agents to test the competence of Warhead's forces. Deadlock, Fink and Ghoul were the three chosen for this task: the three arrived on Medivo via a gigantic ritual, sacrificing a whole colony, since boarding Medivo with space shuttles is impossible. This mega-teleport altered the three's bodies as a side effect; however, they were ready to test how strong Warhead is.

Though all forces were recovering this time (events are after Tides of Darkness), there was a situation which could only be resolved in conflict:
A group of cultists were escorting some of Ezra's latest viral specimens, when they got ambushed and maimed by a party of orks. It is crucial for the undead to regain the cart's load; however the orks won't give it back, and even worse, Imperial intelligence found this event out and dispatched a strike team to retrieve it. Warhead sent his forces along with the three immortals. The war goes on...

Image

The field Overwatch. The objective was simple for both sides: get the cart, and push/pull it to their respective markers. I played Imperial, friend of mine Zirrian was here, so he get to play with the undead. Two squads of orks were neutral; one of them was commandeered by me, the other by Zirrian. After 5 rounds, another pair of ork squads appear.

Image

Forces deployed: 2 squads of melee, 1 squad of ranged, 2 priests, 2 characters (hero stats, 2hp, 1 spec ability), and a hero on both sides.

Image

The undead: Deadlock the hero (badass dark mage cliché), Fink and Ghoul as characters (Fink's ability: He's behind you (on success he appear right behind a unit), Ghoul's ability: Cannibalize (can eat corpses to restore hp))

Image

The Imperials: Sir Fabio the hero (super-charismatic cliché), Flynn and Irene as characters (Flynn's "ability' was that he could use his gun in cc, Irene's ability is weapon block).

Round 1

Orks:

Image

Both moved to the forces on their respective sides.

Imperial Team:

Image

Swordsmen and spec units attacked the orks. Fabio killed one, so did Irene, but lost 1 hp. A third one was shot down.

Undead:

Image

Deadlock fired a chaos blast into the orks, and killed 3.

Image

Fink used his ability and crept behind an ork, both failed to do damage.

Image

Ghoul moved in and fired: the damage wasn't enough.

Image

The rest of the force moved on and killed another ork.

Round 2:

Orks:

Image

They attacked Fabio and Irene. Fabio wasn't harmed, Irene though got killed.

Image

The other squad ganged on Fink who lost a hitpoint.

Imperial Team:

Image

The team moved on, killing more orks.

Image

The priests brought Irene back to life!

Undead:

Image

Fink was joined by Deadlock and Ghoul, and they slaughtered more orks.

Image

The hordes advanced, the crossbowmen finished of the rest of the orks.

Round 3:

Orks:

Image

The greenskins prepared for an attack, but then Fabio used his undeniable personality and persuaded them to attack the undead instead.

Image

They were easily convinced.

Image

However, Fabio was a real weasel and while they get near to the cart, he ordered a crossbow volley on the orks. Sadly, just one died.

Undead:

Image

Deadlock casted fear on the swordsmen, who scattered in terror.

Image

The axe-skeletons chose to sprint. They did it so successfully, that they ran right into the middle of the imperials.

Image

The rest pressed on; the last two orks died from crossbow fire.

Round 4:

Orks:

Image

They are dead.

Imperial Team:

Image

The swordsmen regrouped and took advantage on the exhausted bones.

Image

With the crossbowmen's aid, 3 died.

Image

Flynn blasted Fink's head off.

Image

Irene moved in and attacked Deadlock. However he failed to harm the Immortal. Deadlock counterattacked and, well... the results are quite obvious.

Image

The swordsmen took hold on the cart and began to push it slowly.

Undead:

Image

Deadlock began to chant unholy rhymes...

Image

To enhance the effect he sacrificed the rest of the skeletal axemen.

Image

The spell created an abomination from the ork corpses!

Image

It's first prey was a cleric, who blocked the attack with his magik.

Image

Skeletal swordsmen charged the swordsmen and killed some.

Round 5:

Orks:

Image

MOAR BOYZ ARRIVED!

Image

They moved into the fray.

Imperial Team:

Image

The infantry pulled and pushed the cart closer to their point.

Image

The troops reorganised themselves, ranged units focusing on the abomination, sadly failing to do harm.

Undead:

Image

Deadlock killed a swordsman.

Image

Ghoul shot another swordsman in the back.

Image

The skeletons assaulted Flynn, who lost a hp.

Image

The abomination made his move on Fabio, but the cleric bailed him out with a shield magik.

Image

Fink (who got resurrected by a dark acolyte) got behind Flynn...

Image

... and killed him off for good.

Image

The rest moved on.

Round 6:

Orks:

Image

Both advanced, nothing special.

Imperial Team:

Image

The swordsmen pulled the cart even closer, while the crossbowmen moved back to get out of charging range.

Image

Fabio promoted the two swordsmen nearest to the undead to be the center of attention: while they live, they're the only ones who can be attacked. Bastard.

Undead:

Image

They quickly obliterated the two.

Image

The abomination snatched the cart. 'MINE!'

Image

Then skeletons charged into the puzzled swordsmen.

Image

Big damage roll.

Image

2 deaths.

Round 7:

Orks:

Image

Spearboys ganged on Ghoul, who lost 1 hp.

Image

Berserkers got very close.

Imperial Team:

Image

The swordsmen retaliate, killing 2 skeletons, while the crossbowmen took down an ork.

Image

Fabio tried to chop the abomination's leg off, but failed.

Undead:

Image

Deadlock sacrificed 2 skeletons for a new spell.

Image

He casts fear!

Image

Orks flee in terror.

Image

The abominaton moves the cart...

Image

then pushes it to get it further.

Image

Fink failed his sneaky action and he got behind... himself!

Image

Deadlock hasn't moved, so he went towards the cart.

Image

Overwatch.

Round 7:

Orks:

Image

The spearboys got to their senses and attacked the abomination, who lost 2 hp.

Image

The berserkers killed the front row of crossbowmen.

Imperial Team:

Image

One crossbowmen got revived; he joined the rest and killed 3 berserkers.

Image

Fabio and the swordsmen focused on the skeletal swordsmen.

Image

They killed one and an acolyte too.

Undead:

Image

The abomination 'nommed an ork to regain 1 hp.

Image

Ghoul took care of another spearboy.

Image

Crossbow skeletons pushed the cart even further.

Image

1 swordsmen got kill'd.

Round 8:

Orks:

Image

Spearorks chipped another hp off the abomination.

Image

Berserkers nearly destroyed all crossbowmen.

Imperial Team:

Image

Fabio, realising the fight is lost, heroically retreats.

Undead:

Image

The crossbow skeletons push the cart to their marker. UNDEAD VICTORY!

Image

The immortals leave with the cart full of toxic stuff. Deadlock murmurs something...

Image

They leave the abomination behind as a chew toy for the orks. Then Deadlock casts his last spell...

Image

He implodes the abomination, killing all orks with it.

Image

Final Overwatch.

Aftermath:

The immortals trio's leader Deadlock contacts his master via telepathy, awaiting his decisions. Ezra's happy that his latest discoveries haven't fallen into enemy hands. The Imperials hear a terrible story of an uneven fight by sir Fabio, and prepare for another war. Ork skirmishers found the remains of their boys, and they report to Kensai, who swears a grudge against both imperial and undead.

While Deadlock is in a trance and Fink guards him, Ghoul wonders... how the hell will they get off of this pathetic mudball at all?

At last an Undead Victory!

Man that was a great read. Edge of the seat stuff up until the Abomination arrived, and even then it was touch and go.

What did you think yourselves about the Immortals, facing them and using them? I thought Finks "He's Behind You" ability was amazing, I'll need to use that myself. Zirrian used them very well I thought and you can tell him he can general for me any day.

Well, Zirrian liked Ghoul mostly, because he was a sneaky git and shot everyone in the back; which made me like the character in the end (I wasn't much fond of him in the beginning). The 'he's behind you schtick' was the result when I tried to emphasize the whole stealth and ambush of Fink (also a shout-out for Marbo from 40k). But, in general they're basking with personality, and I wouldn't mind having them stranded for a while on Medivo :)

Oh by the way, do ze undead get a seal of approval for their alliance?

It is looking very promising, just one more thing to be tested, their leader.

[Of course they get the thumbs up, lets avoid using the word SEAL for a while until that plumb of an idea melts away, shall we? They practically had it since the request, egad!] :D

I demand lord Fabio be demoted! Not only did he fail his mission, he also lost his most talented companions without serving retribution to the undead, showed no honour in combat, ran from combat after doing shit for half the battle and his pants got the castle all smelly when he got back!

edit: though I gotta say, I wouldn't like to battle Zirrian.

Yeah, I played Fabio with purpose to show not all high-ranking Imperials are ultra-heroic badasses, going for a black-and-gray morality.

But oh yes, he WILL pay

We can always use someone like Fabio working on the other side. To show my gratitude I'll have my secretary in the axis of Evuul send him a gift and a thank you note, maybe some clean pants?

I tried but the little bitch Wiki wouldn't let me, kept throwing up crap I've never seen before about sharing my clip art or some such rubbish when I tried to paste the link. Then the fucker wouldn't accept my typing when editing. I'll try later when I no longer want to kill things.

Edit: Sort of worked out the typing but the link still takes a pissy fit and asks do I want to allow the webpage access to my clipboard, whatever the fuck that is. It then takes a huff when I tell it no and wont do anything. Man, I tell you, the net would be a better place if you could punch it in the teeth. So, no link for now. Sorry.

EDIT 2: Done, once I figured out I was being a n00bing spaz I managed to get it sorted. External link then link address, got it. Grr.

I think Clipboard is MSWindow's place where it temporarily puts copied images.

Yeah, I guessed as much, the Wiki works on a different manner than I'm willing to learn but my stubbornness won through in the end.

Ah, excellent. The "Beat it over the head until it gives in" approach. 8)
