Path to the Grail, continued

Backstory: Quest of Piltogg
Previously: Path to the Grail

EMPEROR PILTOGG: Report!

CREWMAN: After eighteen months, we're finally approaching Medivo space. We can't get a reading on the Anti-Teknology Field, but our science-based systems are down to thirty percent across the board.

PILTOGG: Patience, crewman. If we'd tried to warp directly into the Anti-Tek Field, our atoms would have never reassembled. And this way I got to spend more quality time with Shab-al-Hiri Pony.

CREWMAN: [throws up in mouth a little bit]

PILTOGG: Vas Kallas! How are the preparations going?

Image

VAS KALLAS: Okka-Wakka-Thulhu and the cultists have taken position in the Teleportation Accelerator.

Image

VAS KALLAS: We can't teleport in the Anti-Tek Field, but the Sorceress Morgaine has repurposed the hyperspatial nexus to amplify their BrikThulhian sorcery. We should be able to maintain life support and navigation with magic until the Akkadian Marines have reached Mocia and secured the Path to the Grail.

PILTOGG: Excellent.

Image

VAS KALLAS: I don't like having to leave the defensive fleet outside Medivo space, but we don't yet know how many ships Okka-Wakka can maintain simultaneously. We should move quickly, before anyone takes advantage of our isolated position.

PILTOGG: There's nothing to fear. The DethStar could hold its own even if we didn't have the Artifakts on our side.

VAS KALLAS: I hope you're right.

Image

PILTOGG: Commander Nietzsche! Status report!

COMMANDER NIETZSCHE: We are, all of us, growing volcanoes that approach the hour of their eruption!

PILTOGG: Are the Akkadian Marines prepared for assault launch on the Mocian surface?

NIETZSCHE: Danger alone acquaints us with our own resources, our virtues, our armor and weapons, our spirit — and forces us to be strong.

PILTOGG: Sounds good to me. Crewman, initiate launch sequence for the Kaizer.

CREWMAN: 7906 Kaizer Assault Lander, release mooring clamps on my mark. Drei, zwei, eins...

Image

CREWMAN: ... mark!

Next: Koincidence levels are spiking!

This is awesome, I have to admit. Using the cultists like that is inspired! HOWEVER... I am getting an image... an image of the landing party getting to the surface and finding out most of their equipment doesn't work... and then not being able to TAKE OFF AGAIN if they DO manage to find what they want.  :warhead:

Seriously, this is awesome, especially Nietzsche.  And I'm impressed that you built the whole Akkadian juggernaut.

CREWMAN: Koincidence levels are spiking! Another rift forming to starboard!

PILTOGG: Commander Nietzsche, take the necessary evasive maneuvers.

NIETZSCHE:  I welcome all signs that a more virile, warlike age is about to begin, which will restore honor to courage above all!

Image

PILTOGG: Commander Nietzsche. You'd better not be flying into that rift.

CREWMAN: Kaizer Assault Lander is changing course, now flying directly into the rift.

NIETZSCHE: The secret for harvesting from existence the greatest fruitfulness and greatest enjoyment is — to live dangerously!

PILTOGG: Lock a tractor beam on that ship.

Image

ROSS VARN: I'll handle this! Stand aside!

GUNNER: Aaaieee!!

LORD KRUS: Wait, Ross! No!

Image

(silent space explosion)

ROSS VARN: Direct hit!

KRUS: Ross! That's not a tractor beam!

NIETZSCHE: Man must be sustained in suffering by a hope so high that no conflict with actuality can dash it—so high, indeed, that no fulfilment can satisfy it: a hope reaching out beyond this world.

(The rift swallows the damaged Assault Lander and disappears once again.)

PILTOGG: Oto. I want that gun brought under control.

SECURITY DIREKTOR OTO: Already on it, Emperor!

Image

GUNNER #2: ... ???

OTO: Shit! Wrong gun!

Image

PILTOGG: Why are you all acting like idiots!?

Image

PILTOGG: I'm getting to the bottom of this. Reroute all system controls to this chair, exclusive manual override. Okka-Wakka, I'm going to need maximum magic to sensors.

OKKA-WAKKA: Oglog M'Rubbit!

PILTOGG: I agree! Let's take a look.

Next: Firing all batteries!

I'll probably end up printing that image and posting it in my workplace, right next to this one:

Don't worry.  You have a year and a half until the next part comes out.
