RAGNABLOK 2012 - DISCUSSING & ORGANIZING

Post by BFenix » Thu Feb 03, 2011 6:10 pm

Original thread found here: http://www.brikwars.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=6415

Right, I've noticed everyone is really exited about the recent ideas for the first time ultimate Brikwarrior gathering, RAGNABLOK 2012(I am to) so lets keep other threads clear and discuss it here.

So for starters lets make a list of all interested players with their location (where you live, should include you town, country and continent, US or EU)(J+Bs list is getting outdated), age, gender (important when it comes to hosting) and possible ways of transportation.
Fill this form and Ill start making and updating a list once there are enough around:

Name:
Age:
Gender:
Location:
Possible ways of Transportation:

Example:
BFenix wrote:Name: BFenix
Age: 17
Gender: Male
Location: Lisbon, Portugal, EU
Possible ways of Transportation: Airplane, Train, car lift in road trip?
We should then get to discussing possible players willing to host within their own homes, this goes for both player accommodation and battle hosting.

Comments, ideas, and Forms are welcome, bring the rain people!

Are we like not ADD enough to hold onto this for a year an a half or should we maybe do a pilot battle in the summer of this year as well?

Name: Ross. You'll prolly find out my real one when we get there, but I'll hold you to a promise not to post it here.
Age: 16. 17 in April. 18 by 2012.
Gender: Male.
Location: St. Louis MO, possibly with a connection to host the game. Perhaps.
Possible ways of Transportation: Licensed driver- or will be by this summer.

This summer will not work for me, I've already brought up Brikworld, and it's not happening. Next year though, the rents are already saying that it may be possible, so I might just switch over events, provided we get this looking official.

I cannot participate this year, because I'll be joining the military. Next summer is fair game. Also, I definitely think Saint Louis is a good choice; then I don't have to spend much money getting there. ;)

EDIT: Would I be able to bring a guest? I'm thinking of getting my brother to play Brikwars, and it'd be great to bring him along.

My city has two possible locations to host Ragnablok (or any other event). As for housing, the motels here aren't too pricey.

EDIT: Although St. Louis seems to be a universally venerated option. I could probably make it East down I-70 in a day or so.

well, u know, wouldn't want ur real name to be correlated to most things people are likely to say on the internets. And while this idea would be epic if properly executed. I can't really see more than like 8 people actually showing up.

questions of note:
1: which rule-set to use
2: CP limitations and/or methods of boosting the level of power in smaller armies, so they don't just die in a few turns.
3: Limitations on specialized weapons: nine Artifax of pre-creation come to mind, but could be just about anything really.
4: Can we convince Rayhawk to go? as it really wouldn't feel complete without him.
5: Should multiple games be set up? I think yes, as if people are going to spend like 12 hours driving to get there, then they should be in for more than just one game.
6: Anti-pedo measures: primarily because most people are under 18
7: modular terrain standards? I feel like the vast majority of people who would like to come don't actually have enough lego to meet any standards we might set, and hodge-podgedness can be a detriminal factor.
8: Is anyone willing to put some work into developing a scenario for it with a set of objectives with given point values for scoring and an interesting backstory?
9: how do you determine whose legos are whose at the end of all the chaos?
10: would it be easier to piggyback off of a pre-existing lego convention?

I'll get working on some ideas for that.
I've got lots of ideas.
Let me type some into my Mac computer thing.

Maybe everyone should bring a base for their army, and a couple plain baseplates. Then the hodgepodge factor can be reduced a little.

Make an excuse plot, like 'Dread Pirate 2x2 has summoned the factions of the Brikverse for a war to end all wars.'

2010 set WILL HOPEFULLY be out.
2: CP limitations and/or methods of boosting the level of power in smaller armies, so they don't just die in a few turns.
Alliances make this easy- try to have a rougly equal force on both sides, even if individual players are imbalanced ie: RoC vs Me+SwordSalmon+Bfenix might be a fair fight.
3: Limitations on specialized weapons: nine Artifax of pre-creation come to mind, but could be just about anything really.
We're not using game-breakers. In the Grande spirit of the rules, Our great forum overlord will personally beat the shit out of anyone who does this.
4: Can we convince Rayhawk to go? as it really wouldn't feel complete without him.
FUCK YES
5: Should multiple games be set up? I think yes, as if people are going to spend like 12 hours driving to get there, then they should be in for more than just one game.
Of course! If we all make our terrain bitz on 32x32 baseplates, we can just rearrange em as necessary
6: Anti-pedo measures: primarily because most people are under 18
Parental consent forms? Requiring minors to have an adult there?
7: modular terrain standards? I feel like the vast majority of people who would like to come don't actually have enough lego to meet any standards we might set, and hodge-podgedness can be a detriminal factor.
Workin this out in the other thread. 32x32 are what Flickr's military lego geniuses use for this sort of thing, and if you are low on parts, we do need flat areas too.
8: Is anyone willing to put some work into developing a scenario for it with a set of objectives with given point values for scoring and an interesting backstory?
Make up story on the fly, generally works well.
9: how do you determine whose legos are whose at the end of all the chaos?
Take photos of your entire force when you begin. Masking tape on the bottom of your terrain with your name on it. At end of game, find all your parts, rebuild/ scoop into boxes your shattered buildings and hills and forests and plains/what have you
10: would it be easier to piggyback off of a pre-existing lego convention?
Wont be OUR convention though.
