Redshirting

I have a question about redshirting.

Say my hero have an incoming damage of 5 and rolls miserably on his armor, 2d6=4. He successfully redshirts a unit that has 6 armor (standard minifig armor and +2 body armor). So does the minifig redshirting for the hero die? Since the hero would have. Or does the minifig survive? since his armor is enough.

The minifig survives. He has more armor than the attack deals damage. Simple as that.

So hypothetically my hero could just lug around a super armored sidekick to absorb all his damage?

That's correct. Super armored guys tend to be slow though, so it'd limit your hero's mobility.

Put him on a horse. Always worked for me.

Fully armored guy with double tall shields on a horse. He has an SN die on hims as well that is used for armor buff.

That's good for one redshirting, but then he's not on a horse anymore.

Can creations with their own mind redshirt?

The inspired unit must be on the Hero's team, it must be capable of leaping (e.g., minifigs, robots, or animals, rather than tanks or jet fighters), and it must have a lower CP cost than the Hero (not counting equipment, but counting Crankiness discounts, if any).

When a Hero learns that he's about to take Damage, he has one chance to inspire a nearby RedShirt to take the fall instead. Before the Damage is rolled, the Hero rolls his Skill (plus any Bonus Dice on a Critical Success). If an eligible RedShirt is within this many inches of the Hero, the inspiration succeeds.

So the horse could redshirt, if it was no longer a 1d4 skill?

Yes. It's a little weird, but legal.

Horses have a d6 skill though, not a d4.

What if you don't use CP?

I like how a horse has more skill than a civilian

Having spent an approximately equal amount of time around horses as around civilians, I trust the horses.

Sheep, on the other hand, are dumb as fuck.

I have the greatest vision of a hero with personal guard of armored, sentinent horses ready to sacrifice themselves at any moment.

... if we're making horses independent, why won't we throw them guns already? Who needs minifigs when you have horses?
