If I might make a suggestion...

There are both blue and yellow 2x2/2x4 plates. Put a hinge (2x1, a whole one of these) on some sort of base (like a 2x2 black plate, etc), and mount the yellow/blue plate vertically. Add in the rules IVhorseman posted, and there you go.

I might rip this off for my own use...

Only problem with that is that portals can only be placed on walls, if you're going by Aperture Science Rules.

Nope... "Solid" walls or other flat structures(?) (shouldn't move much at all), unless they resist portals. Not really a problem. But if players want, they might put portals on airplane cargo space and so on like Bonn-o-Tron. And if you go Aperture Science -way, you'd be able to go back from the portal you came from - a nice way for clever enemies.

And the userate would be affected by normal long range rules - speed, size, firing blind...

If you understood me, it's really something.

nope. you can place em on floors too. and basically any flat object.

for brikwars, i'd say the same. anywhere where a physical piece representing a portal can be placed and not look wierd (like on a round object or a wire fence), it can go there. a larger portal means harder to place, but a bigger object can fit through. with these rules, plopping a portal on the front end of a tank and another onto the bottom of a plane can send soldiers that would normally be crushed under treads into a free-falling death instead.

So long as the target is flat, immobile, white, and wide enough to receive the portal, it works.
So break out the black briks!

Now then, for the Gravity Gun...
UR 2, Rng 12".
Can carry any object (up to double the size of a minifig) within 6" of it.

Why does the Gravity Gun have 12" range, but can only pick up items within 6"?

<side_note>
I'll be testing both of these ideas (Portal + Gravity guns) at Olothontor's Brikwars match over the weeked, so I'll let you know how all of this speculation turns out.

The Gravgun can drag and quickly pick up crap from short distances and chuck it pretty far.
Have you played Half-Life 2 by chance?

But obviously small objects (such as a taco, or throwing knife) can be picked up from further away, such as from 10", due to them having less weight to hold them back from the pull, correct?

Suprizingly, and unfortunately, no. Far away tacos are very hard to pull since you have to aim directly at the thing just to get it to budge.

Interesting... In that case, I denote it's range to be six, as by no circumstances may it's full listed potential be reached.

This whole discussion makes me want to design two whole Team Fortress 2 armies, one minifig (with signature weapon) for each class.

And perhaps, in time, a Lego rendition of 2fort.

it's what i base most character classes off for stat cards. i think the spy has a LOT of brikwars potential.
