Thoughts on Aldnoah.Zero:

It's not as great as I've been led to believe from the hype and the big-name talent working on it.  There's very little to its characters, and the story is one we've all seen before.  What carries the show is its awesome action, not to mention the music.  The bad guys have a massive edge in technology, so the heroes have to win battles through cunning and teamwork, and every fight is a terrifyingly close call.  Colette compared it to fights in the first season of Code Geass, but it's more extreme than that: it's like if Lelouch piloted an EVA.

The sad thing is, once the inevitable mid-season upgrades hit and the good guys can fight on an equal footing, the show will lose its only really unique aspect.  I'm guessing the producers didn't have much of an idea beyond "herd all of the big names in anime together and make a mecha show", and my expectations aren't very high.

That's fair, but I've also heard it's two cour. If they don't have any massive twists planned, I'll be hugely disappointed.

Also something I noticed:

Spoiler: show
Princess Asseylum wants asylum.

Yeah.  Since it's Gen Urobichi, I suppose that Inaho and Slaine have more depth than they've let on so far.  Episode 6 is up on Anime Haven, I'll watch it as soon as I'm done watching The World's End.

Stuff from this episode:
Spoiler: show
--Asseylum reveals crucial information about Mars' technology and society, then waxes poetic about Earth--
--Inaho corrects her and spends a full minute explaining why the sky is blue and clouds are white as she tears up--

Myth Confirmed: Inaho is actually Colette.
(Especially given his attraction to Asseylum, a blonde girl who can do Magical Girl style costume transformations.)

Also, while the hint that we'll be getting more backstory reveals soon is welcome, the coincidences are really starting to pile up.  On this one ship, we have:
- some emotionless supergenius kid who is the only person capable of defeating Martian mecha in a 1v1
- The princess of Mars who everyone thinks is dead
- The child of one of the conspirators who tried to assassinate her
- The only person who knows the truth about the Martian attack fifteen years ago
- The sister of a guy whose death he is apparently responsible for
AND COMING SOON:
- Apparently the only Martian who thinks of Terrans as human beings who don't deserve to be slaughtered, and who also happens to know about the conspiracy to kill the Princess and start a war

Saw the last two Aldnoah Zeros, they were great.

Spoiler: show
Although I think it's a little cliché, the writing is still good and I think the concepts (like Aldnoah drives) are really interesting. Hopefully there's going to be unpredictable twists coming up.

Also Slaine is awesome and definitely best guy.

I'm not bothered about the cliche-ness; Gen Urobichi's shows generally take a few episodes to get up to speed.  And holy shit, episode 7 was awesome and actually started to hint that Inaho is more than an emotionless genius mech pilot.  Also, the Hellas is Brikwars as fuck.

And that video is hilarious.  I especially like Lelouch's reaction to the Code Geass crack ships.

So, I've started Pet Girl of The Sakurasou, and it's actually a pretty good series.

Imagine if Shinji from NGE was completely lacking in Common Sense and could not live by herself, but actually had the tiniest bit more personality.

So, if you're not afraid of doing a lot of cringing and/or laughing, I would recommend this series.
EDIT:
If you're NOT a fan of fanservice or Ecchi, this is NOT the series for you. In the spoiler below is the most infamous example of why she can't ever live by herself:
Spoiler: show
The male protagonist, Sorata, has to pick out her underwear everyday before school

Yup. She can watch (and like) any anime that doesn't contain piloted Robots. She hates anything that has even something resembling robots in it (I believe this is because of EoE, or NGE as a whole).

My GF was like that so I got her into Iron Man and went from there. She really likes building Gundam models but refuses to watch Gundam itself. Slow and steady progression.

I started watching Psycho Pass.  I almost immediately stopped watching but then they did that thing in the first episode where
Spoiler: show
the inspector was able to talk the victim down and her crime coefficient dropped back to the non lethal range.  It was a good choice.  And here I was thinking they were going to make a whole killer AI thing out of it.  Glad they didn't.
For such an absurd notion, it's actually one of the most realistic representations I've seen of it.  So far, average.

I'm glad you decided to stick with it.  Gen Urobichi's shows usually take a few episodes to get really interesting, but the payoff is well worth it.  I'd say that psycho-pass hits its stride around episode 5 or 6.

Speaking of, thoughts on Aldnoah.Zero episode 8:
Spoiler: show
IT'S A GUNDAM
I'm kinda disappointed by this one, although it's nice to see that Crutheo actually has a heart.  After the ending of Episode 7, I'd hoped that Inaho would be revealed to have some kind of hidden agenda, but now it seems like the entire thing was just a miscommunication between him and Slaine?  Also, I was hoping for an epic fight between two Martian super robots, but that didn't happen, so yeah.  Guess we'll keep playing the waiting game.

Aldnoah Zero Episode 8

Spoiler: show
God fucking damnit, I predicted that that Count was good. I fucking knew it, and now he's dead. Now all the Martians that could have stopped the war are screwed without his Aldnoah powers.

It also looks like Slaine is the Homura/Kiritsugu type character who's heavily driven towards his own goals.

Personally, I really enjoyed this episode (maybe enjoyed is a bad word because I watched best guy get tortured), and I hope nothing else I predict comes true.

I'm also starting to believe the theories that Inaho is high functioning autistic, or something. He doesn't give a fuck about anything, at all.

Also, if you guys have never been to an anime convention, they're actually pretty fun. I just went to my first one, and I thought it was easy to meet people, and everyone has the same interests as you (assuming you like anime).

Although I did get booed during the "unpopular anime opinions" event.
