Thoughts on Aldnoah.Zero:
It's not as great as I've been led to believe from the hype and the big-name talent working on it. There's very little to its characters, and the story is one we've all seen before. What carries the show is its awesome action, not to mention the music
. The bad guys have a massive edge in technology, so the heroes have to win battles through cunning and teamwork, and every fight is a terrifyingly close call. Colette compared it to fights in the first season of Code Geass, but it's more extreme than that: it's like if Lelouch piloted an EVA.
The sad thing is, once the inevitable mid-season upgrades hit and the good guys can fight on an equal footing, the show will lose its only really unique aspect. I'm guessing the producers didn't have much of an idea beyond "herd all of the big names in anime together and make a mecha show", and my expectations aren't very high.
