Ninemile/Fitzpatrick plant.

Intresting and utterly useless fact... Ninemile 1 and Fitzpatrick 1 are the same age and model of reactor... While building "Fitzpatrick" they ran out of cash to finish it so the owners sold it to NY state. After they came up with more money NY state wouldn't sell it back to them so the owners built Ninemile 2.

Funny how that works.[/code]

with regards to the nuclear powerplant mealtdown situation you guys were talking about. the whole photons being shot through the air thing, occurs during explosions, like at chernobyl and hiroshima. the biggest threat that North American civilian reactors pose, with regards to radiation, is the leaking of radioactive wast (such as duterium (an isotope of Hydrogen that contains one neutron and is the same Hydrogen found in heavy water)) as well as other materials that would be absorbed into the atmosphere and come down as a black rain. so if you find you're self grasping for water after a nuclear blast, DO NOT DRINK ANYTHING!

and remember kids, things that are iradiated are not radioactive themselves, radiation is used to steralize certain products, and as long as these objects do not become radioactive, then they are perfectly safe. (mythbusters ate iradiated tostitos for the double dipping myth.)

actually no, alpha radiation is the most strongly ionizing and therefore most dangerous if it gets inside your body. good thing even your skin will already stop almost all of it.
gamma radiation is the LEAST deadly radiation, as it is the least strongly ionising, however you need a thick layer of lead or something to be able to shield it properly.
alpha radiation contains helium nuclei, not hydrogen atoms
beta radiation contains electrons or positrons, not protons or neutrons
neutrons will only in special cases be harmfull.

deuterium is a stable isotope, and therefore completely harmless. unless you burn it of course... it is still a form of hydrogen and reacts the same way.
radioactive iodine is a larger problem as it also gets absorbed by a lot of vegetables etc. nearby.
and even then, most of the radioactive waste will remain contained inside the building, as that is what it is designed to do.
for this reason they have large storages of iodine salts, that people should take in if an accident does occur. by taking it in, you reduce the amount of radioactive iodine you get in your body.

did you have any education about radioactivity? most of what you say about it seems to be completely wrong.

I thought about pointing out how deeply wrong he was about everything after the first post, but then I realized no one actually cares about radiation, and this level of effort spent on trying to look smart is really only appropriate for when we're talking about WWII. So if you can tie this all back in to Piltogg somehow, it'd be appreciated.

Got your WW2 tie in right here, bitch:

You know who also had a nuclear program, the NAZIS had a nuclear program. *nod*

Also, the poster several posts above may mean tritium which is mostly harmless... slightly radioactive and used by Anti Nuclear Wankers to scare stupid people.

In conclusion "Pissing Tritium" would be an awesome name for a rock-band.

From the Encyclopedia of WWII:

"Piltogg's Brain in a Jar spent a metric shit ton of money on the development of nuclear weapons.
They first created a gamma ray bomb, but that wasn't awesome enough, since nobody could agree on whether gamma rays are the most destructive or the least. The scientists were pissed off, so they enriched the gamma rays with beta rays to create gabba rays.

The early Gabba rays were very colorful but lacked the visual ass snuggling appeal that a true WMD needs. So the radiological puppet masters created a Gabba^2 weapon, more commonly known as GabbaGabba. The bomb shells where then made into sinister shapes, like sex toy ass snuggling devices of doom. Scientist tested, Piltogg's Brain in a Jar approved!"

alright. first off, with regards to "deadliness" i was under the impression that Lethality and Penetrative capabillities went hand in hand. didn't know that alpha was more harmfull, thank you for that. now that i think about it it makes since since alpha particles are bigger and its kinda like the difference between firing a howitzer vs 9mm. (again i'm geussing i don't actually know why radiation is dangerous. i assumed it was simply due to it colliding with atombs in the body and causing them to be nocked lose or to break down. perhaps you could explain what makes radiation deadly

secoundly. i said deturium, i meant deuterium, i was wrong. i thought deuterium had a radioactivity so negligable that it was almost not worth mentioning. might have been tritium. and i wasn't saying that the concern was warrented, just that people freak out about it (can't blame em) but i know tritum isn't really dangerous (i suppose if you injest it it might be.)

finally, i post these things so that you'll say im wrong, correct me, and allow me to learn, so thank you.... and screw you all! :D

yeah, the lethality is mostly based on the ionising properties, alpha radiation is therefore the most harmful, since it has a charge of +2. beta a charge of -1. and gamma has no charge and its ionising properties are based on bumping into other particles, pissing them of and releasing electrons and shit.

oh yeah, and the theory that allows us to get energy from nuclear power plants was invented by einstein, who was a german.. JUST like Piltogg was.

but really I get so darn pissed about misinformation about radiation and nuclear power plants, because of greenpeace, I HATE greenpeace.

Maybe I'll have to make HBIJ one of these...

The red one is R1 the pink is R2
Like the V1 and V2 rockets but more rapie.

The green and blue guys are bomb techs. The robot is and unassploded bomb diffuser.

Lies! Piltogg was Austrian. Under Piltogg requirements he couldn't even be considered a proper Aryan, since his illegitimate grandfather meant his ancestry wasn't documented to the required degree.

I've had Piltogg's Mom... she wasn't very good though and not even slightly radioactive which was a bit of a shame I thought. :(
