Now as for whether it helps your country... I think cultures are going to trump countries before too long, to tell the truth. We may never be rid of them entirely, but with globalist post-nationalism burgeoning on the way it has been, I think the great movers and shakers of power and identity are shifting away from anything based on boundaries of geography, and more towards boundaries defined by either ideology or corporate interest. So it's hard to really get worked up over the fate of one individual country compared to another.
Having said that, I've long been of the opinion that a rising tide floats all boats, or however the saying goes. All else being equal, a decrease in inequity between two parties benefits the whole community to a degree, whether that's between individuals or between countries.
