I'd say so. Dieselpunk is supposed to be gritty post WW stuff. I think most of the DP stuff I've seen is more 1950s but I understand it can go back to the 20s. I gather its really any period of time in there that isn't WWI or WWII. Tricky genre, though, because I've seen art and fiction labeled DP that is set during the world wars. Still, a defining feature would appear to be gritty representations of romantic technologies in the early 1900s. Rocketpacks, biplanes, zeppelins, the first commercial airliners, tanks, gasmasks, and the like.

I guess Diesel Punk would be easier to represent in Lego than Steam Punk simply because there is just not enough Victorian-era Lego around, unless you make it Wild West Steam Punk (and why not?).

And yes, World War Eras do count as Diesel Punk because of all the alternative history stuff you can do around it. Sky Captain is definitely Diesel Punk, no matter what some might say. And with a bit more imagination, Indiana Jones coulda been Diesel Punk, if they wanted to go that way...

Now if I could only get a Lego Zeppelin that doesn't break the bank, I'd be golden...

Yes. I'm pretty into Steampunk here and I tend to enjoy Wild West stuff more than Victorian.
pkbrennan wrote:Sky Captain is definitely Diesel Punk
Agreed. Some call it Decopunk because its shinier and less gritty. More of a pulp style. But I think both descriptions are accurate. Thats the funny thing about genre concept...you can break it down endlessly. Pretty soon, the process becomes so specific the thing describes itself...Sky Captain, for example, becomes defined as belonging to the genre Sky Captain. Hierarchies are nice for that. And I think a lot of folks forget the punk part. That quintessential struggle against some authority or source of oppression. I know a lot of steampunk enthusiasts who would better qualify as victorian reenactors. I think Dieselpunk could be considered the struggle against evil powers, sides in a world war from the other's perspective, but I can also see Dieselpunk being an opposition against the horrors of war or the pretense of civility.

There was a kit in the old Adventurers line that came packed in a big "Zeppelin" airbag piece...

After a little Googling, it's 5956.

5-20 sounds about right. At 50-75 I'd be tempted to sell mine... I think I have a spare.

Would you believe it that on evilbay UK I could not find the balloon set? Might use totally different search terms for it...

Found a loose balloon piece being bid upon, but the P&P would have been far more than what I was likely to pay for the thing if I won. So no.

Meanwhile, bricklink's prices are often extortionate but once in a while you do get something at a decent price.

Giant Eagle.

Also, those ghosts might be pretty perfect for my zeitgeisteskrankheit.

Also also, Lone ranger train w gatling gun. I've wanted to do a battle train for a long time. It's been possible before now, of course, but it reminded me.

Gothic Arches are good. I want the King of the Dead from the Corsair set - the Undead need a Wight Lord. ;)
