RWL Prefabrication Inc. (And other buildings)

Postby RunsWithLegos » Thu Dec 14, 2017 6:14 pm

In this topic I'll be posting the buildings and terrain I have created. They will shake out into two broad categories:

Prefabs and Purpose Built.

Prefabs are more generic builds that can be plopped down lickity split for quick games. They are suposed to be sturdy or quick to rebuild  so I can just toss them into a transport or storage box with out too much worry. They may look nice, will prolly look bland. Simply put, they are the parralell to pringle can 'silos' and book 'cliffs' known well in WH40k and infinity. Small Lego set terrain pieces fall under thi s catagory by and large.

Purpose Built will be the more vissually apealing and story focused battlefield pieces. Faction or setting specific, and with nifty gubins to blast apart in battle. These pieces are less mobile than prefabs, and are either testing grounds for my building techniques, or settings for forum battles/plot related things.

Spearpoint Base, yellow compound and Prefabs, recent builds of mine for some battles my last year of college.

Spearpoint is a Purpose Built fortress for an upcomming minniwargame showcase my club is hosting. It is the forward most instilation of an as-of-yet un-fluffed out deffensive line. The battle will be focused on several factions trying to get into it, and either steal shit, break shit, or just murder every one else.

Yellow Compound and the little Block Houses are Prefabs.
Sturdy, modular, heavy enough to be servicable thrown weapons. My only issue is that these builds are very piece expensive. .I want to work towards smarter part usage that still produce walls that are substantial  enough to be moved around or placed into a box and transported. Ideas are welcome.

For some reason I am really interested in the Idea of Prefab buildings. I think it might be because I am slightly obsessed with modular stuff.  :studgod:

This is really quite cool. I also am interested in the modulars and props, and have been working on some but I haven't posted them yet. A modular building standard would be cool to work with.

No maybe not be exact modular standard that Lego uses.

My current prefabs are pretty low skill as far as part usage goes. just bricks stacked together. Do you have any ideas on how to make the walls with less bricks, or slightly more visually appealing while keeping it sturdy?

Larger windows are a way to use less bricks, but having some bricks be .5-1 stud offset from the rest in a pattern is a good way to add detail.

No need to apologize mate. You've inspired me to go out and buy some bricks with which to build some fortifications.

Modifying official buildings is a pretty simple way of getting prefabs.

Just add extra walls and roofs as necessary.

For added play value, make roofs removable.

Or walls.
