The crate has six studs inside of it, and the tabs on the top are there to stick plates on. The middle 1x4 tile isn't actually attached, but there should be enough grip between the other two to keep it on, provided you're not planning on having it upside down. Alternatively, you could use 2x3 plates instead, which is what's typically used in sets.
Yeah, I figured out that it was just the clip on the inside stud just after I posted...

I have been collecting the Lego City mining stuff so have started a little self defence force for them.
1. Red Muscle Car - based loosely on a design from Pharaoh's Quest:
2. Alex - Hero - gunslinger type:
3. Morag - driver of the Red Muscle Car:
4. Mechanik:
5. Mine Guard (female):
Also working on a second car, a single seater, but am not happy with it yet as I need more parts to finish it.
The only two sets I am missing from the mining range is the big tipper truck and the mine itself. Ah yes, and I used the minifig series 9 motorcycle mechanik as the driver for the JCB...

A lonely lord stares out from his tower.
This build was mainly an attempt to get all my castle-type pieces togeather in one place before I began making Drakierkegaard, but it looked cool enough to warrent some pics of it, unlike it's predecesor.
Inside the walls is a small keep, protecting the tower.
Both spiral staircases work, allowing access to the roof, the interior is Spartan, with a table or two.
The double doors allow for murderholes in the walls.
In the back, there's a barracks for soldiers, built into the mountain.
Again, pretty spartan.
There's also a jail cell, with a robber baron in it.

He's also wearing too much shirt. MFS should always display his muscles prominently.

Not always. He needs to wear a shirt sometimes, if only so he can then flex his muscles and have it tear apart.

More things, because why study for finals when you can mess around in LDD?
Dune buggies! They're a little smaller than minifig scale, but I'd rather this than making them too big.
Just a truck of some sort.
And now for something more Brikwarsy, a gun buggy.

Really liking the dune buggies and the back rollcage on the jeep. I'll probably be stealing at least one.
