Harry Potter was split into two movies too, although I don't consider any of them to be good.

LotR wasn't marketed for a younger audience, but it's not bad for them or anything. Big difference between being marketed for someone and being suitable.

If they released The Hobbit as one part and it would be 8 hours longs, I'd see it in the theaters. Worth it.

Have you seen the teaser for it yet? It's on YouTube somewhere. It's not a trailer, just Peter Jackson walking around the set and some ceremony stuff.

They sell lots of bricks. Keep in mind how long they have had the Halo one for example. I know a few people who have bought the Halo stuff and do not own any Lego. They bought it because they are halotards and have lots of halo stuff.
So they could be using that cash to try for it again and again......

MegaBloks appeals to a different market to Lego. I collect the old Dragons stuff and it's easy to see that the terrain pieces are excellent pieces of work. The ice terrain in particular is downright amazing. Then there's the high play value with crystals that unlock secret compartments, altars that rise up with silky smoothness as well as dozens of other clever animations. The Dragon series minifigs aren't so hot as a lot of mine have loose leg syndrome and the non-rotating wrists and hard plastic hands have their own problems too. I still like them though
Not so keen on the older dragons, but the later Ice & Fire series Ice Dragon that I have can be made to glow with eerie icy colours if you press the secret button.
MegaBloks is still a construction set, but not in the same way as Lego is. Not everyone wants to construct every little darn thing entirely out of bricks before they can have the adventure and that's why MegaBloks is more successful with getting licenses for Halo, Warcraft & etc.

The problem with Mega Bloks is that the pieces are all wonky. When I built my Warthog, the bar above the seats was offset by an entire stud because of the distortions in the plastic.
BrikThulhu eats 1d6 minifigs each turn.

Because no one else is bidding on them. Halo wouldn't fit into Lego's product line, especially not alongside the Star Wars license they already have.

Coz they have to pay license fees for every set sold.

They probably sell more because when parents see an expensive Lego set on the shelf at Wal-Mart and then see a bigger but less expensive Mega Bloks set just down the same shelf, which one do you think they are going to pick up for their kid who may loose interest in it in a months time. Regardless of if kids can tell the difference in Legos and Mega Bloks, it is the adults that have to pay for them. This is just a generalization, of course, but I'm sure you get the point.
