Ordering from Bricklink

Post by Whiteagle » Tue Jul 17, 2012 8:17 pm

How I do?

Alright, so today is my twenty-forth birthday, and I'm thinking about getting the parts needed for my Droid IFV...

...Thing is, how does one order from Bricklink in the first place?

Wait, so you order everything through Bricklink itself?
Thing is, I'm going to need a rough estimate on the price before I order, then I could maybe squeeze in a few smaller purchases as well, like this Rocket Turret or some Mass Produced Frigates.

Depends on what stores you're buying from. All stores have different prices for different parts. I always try to find a store that has the majority of the pieces I need. If they don't have everything, just make some smaller purchases at other stores to ensure that you get what you're looking for.

Ok, so am I going to have to fiddle around with a bunch of different stores pages to get everything priced?
Because that sounds like a pretty big hassle...

no different from going around to a bunch of different IRL shops to get the best price. You'll also want to buy from someone in your country to save on shipping.

You should also create an account on Bricklink to get an idea of how it works.

This. Although a lot of stores around the world have some really good prices and huge quantities, it helps to buy from the country where you live. Also remember that in some cases the biggest stores with the most buys/sells and the huge quantities won't have EVERYTHING you need.

Alright, I think I have a general idea of pricing...

...But now I'm getting bit in the ass for trying to build with a color scheme, since LDD has elements in colors they never CAME IN!!! :fu: :why:

...Any ideas for salvaging my Droid IFV plans?

If you're panning something in LDD that you're planning to make in the brik, always cross-reference with Bricklink as you're building it. If you can't find the piece, just try to find something similar in the right colour.

Great, so now I might as well rebuild the thing from scratch just to make sure the colors work...

Ugh, might as well build something entirely different in that case...

That's still a problem, since this and this are the closest matches for the sloped bits that make up the front of this:

If those pieces don't come in those colors, how can I be sure anything else in this build is correct?

You could use one of the big ones for the front, and the small one for the top.
