For what its worth I used to live in Germany and did not notice any of that stuff, but then again I was there for about two years. So as an eight year old the time I was more interested in the amazing food then Piltogg's or Neo-Nazis.
So I guess just let the guy that currently lives there expound feather on all things German.

Been here longer then pretty much all of you or some shit.
I know it started in Germany, but that doesn't mean national socialism and German are synonymous (cue word buttplug from "German" to "Piltogg").
There were plenty of people in Germany who were not fans of Nazism, and there are probably more people proportionally in the US now who hold harsh feelings toward Jews, if you're talking about that side of it.

I was exaggerating by suggesting they had nothing to do with each other. What I meant by it was that just because two things are connected at times doesn't mean they are all the time. Just because the United States made up the "representative democracy," plenty of people would argue that the United States isn't much of one.

Nonsense. While we sadly do still have a lot of neonazis they are far from destabilizing our democracy. They have no support, they are fragmented among themselves and most important: they are just too frigging stupid, like all nazis/fascists/racists.piltogg wrote:give Germany a few more years, they'll get back in the swing of it eventually.
Not. Ever since the fantastic football championship in 2006 it is becoming more and more accepted to show the flag, paint your face etc. Albeit just during important sports events to show support of the national team.piltogg wrote:From what I have heard they are still somewhat afraid to show ANY form of nationalism whatsoever, like Flying a German flag would be not good and stuff like that. Correct?
Nationalism led us into two wars and the Holocaust so it is no wonder it is shunned upon here. When you grow up here you are not brought up do love and defend your country but to stand up to its constitution basically. For example during conscription i swore to defend the "free democratic basic order" rather than the nation.

bankers anyone? (read some history and you may notice that religion meant that Jewish law allowed them to lend money, so they where blamed for the recession...)
It's interesting that germany (as apollyon said) is staying away from being proud of it self.
denazification
Im not sure if they made it illegal, but i don't think their can be offical goverment partys for it.

Apollyon, while I enjoyed the input of someone who has "on the scene" so to speak, knowledge I do have to disagree with one point made.
It took more then a bunch of "frigging stupid" people to take over near all of Europe. Nazis/fascists/racists may be termed uncivilized, and possible out of touch with reality but they are not totally dumb.Apollyon wrote: they are just too frigging stupid, like all nazis/fascists/racists.

There have been periods of history where it wasn't frigging stupid to be a fascist, but the twenty-first century isn't one of them.
Fascism doesn't work within the modern geopolitical system the way it might have 70 years ago; economic globalism has changed the game too much. In 2010, anyone who's still trying to promote fascism as a viable methodology for achieving anything besides ostracism and economic ruin is pretty frigging stupid. For reference, look at Kim Jong Il and Saddam Hussein, our two most prominent fascists of the modern age - both very successful back when fascism was a viable strategy, but they failed to evolve with the times.
As a side note, that taking over most of Europe thing was pretty impressive. How well did pissing off the entire world turn out for them in the long term? You think maybe if they weren't frigging stupid they would have thought that through a little better?

Yea, the Nazis were pretty stupid with the entire idea of world domination and all.
Firstly, they decided that they wanted to kill off the majority of the world. How were they planning on exterminating such a large number of people without being gunned down?
Second, they were greatly outnumbered and knew it. They were only recovering from their demilitarization after WWI and decided to take on half of Europe and obviously doing something that would piss off a lot of people.
And I find it fricking hilarious when james+burgandy doesn't pay attention to the posts that make him look like an idiot.

I already explained what I meant by it, and you're the only one who DIDN'T know what I meant by it.
