I forgot to mention before. I have no understanding as to what your doing or how you manage to make these or the difficulty involved. To me it is all wizardry and magics that are beyond my ken, but they sure do look like good game sprites to me.

Switching gears for a sec. I haven't had a ton of time on my hands, but I did find the time today to figure out the death animation. Hope it's a bit less like a hollow balloon now.

EDIT: Added a fix to the knockback. I'm still unsure about this, I'll have to see what it looks like in the context of actually being hit by an attack. I'll also work on an alternate sequence for when it simply gets hit (an attack that doesn't cause knockback).

Next I'll see what I can do about that idle animation.

So, I sat down with a bunch of appropriately sized character sprites and started a study. How to do clothing, hair, feet and arms, posing, etc. Finally decided to try my hand at it, and with heavy inspiration from the woman in blue, got this:

Then immediately started tearing it apart, looking for ways to improve. I messed with the hands, the face, and the hair a tiny bit, as well as messing with the shading on the boots and etc.

I'm still working on it, though.

But I did give it a bit of my own style, so hopefully this won't be entirely inspired by other people's work. Enjoy the eye candy, as usual.

Nice! But it makes me wonder about you complaining that you can't sprite any decent-looking humans.

Like I said, I had to heavily rely on the blue-clothed gentlewoman there for the shape and anatomy. Once I have an overall shape I can tweak to my heart's content, as long as it's not too far off... but in my case it's getting that initial shape that eludes me.

So I ask: Why weren't these placed in the Art Dump thread?

Because all of the worthwhile people that I'd like to see it have already seen it. Those who are not BrikWarriors but are on PW, and those who I like, are on Steam, so they've seen it as well.

There's no point in showing off to the people I dislike.

So I've ground to a depressingly long halt on this, however it'll pick back up as soon as my other artist (coincidentally BFenix) gets his end of the scale packed up and hauled off. I'm waiting on poses for the characters (since I have issues with anatomy, as has been mentioned).

Thanks for your patience, everyone.

So what exactly is this study? I know you said it was to "hone your spriting skills", but is that it? Or is it the beginning of a game or the like?

Yeah, it's gonna be a game alright.

The company and I (SmallScreen Media) are in fact making an RPG called Sin, and it will more than likely be free (although there will hopefully be a donate button for all of those kind souls who wish to contribute).

Details on this when I'm feeling more awake and less likely to make the game seem totally unappetizing to your BrikWarrior bloodlust-ish palates.

For now, ^ here is all the explanation you'll need.

I hope to have it available for PC and Mac. It might also end up on Nintendo DS and Xbox arcade, depending on how ambitious the programming team is feeling. Don't bank on those last two, though.
