BrikSpace Second Edition

Post by Olothontor » Mon Jul 05, 2010 6:24 pm

Why not skip it and move on to BrikSpace Version 2.0?

As in, officially. No kidding. This is actually going down. The proverbial dukey just hit the fan, folks.

But in a good way.

Anyway, before I continue that thought process anymore... it's now summer, and therefore I actually have the time I need to dedicate myself to this more wholly. Now, I realize I've said this several times before... "it really will happen this time, guys, promise"... so I won't say it again.

However I will go ahead and say that I am going to tackle this again and see what I can make out of it. It may not be a total revamp of previous stuff, but it won't be entirely similar.

I'm also taken to understand that 501st has the intention of creating an RPG system supplement for BrikSpace. Kudos to him, I'm glad to have his aid and support. We'll be working together, but not on the same things. No worries, BrikSpace is still solely my boneriffic little brain baby.

So, that all said, here's a small list of official planned improvements to the system:
  • * Improved FP Prices
    * Datanetting (thanks to Warhead and various others)
    * Firing Arcs (to make movement not utterly pointless)
    * Weaponry Updates (potentially a point-based upgrade system as well)
    * New Flagship/CIC Rules
    * BOARDING
    * New Battlefield Setup rules (minefields, IDEWs, and the like)
    * Hit Point/Piece-off Hybrid Rules (uncertain about these)
And similar goodies, probably some extra stuff thrown in non-related to mechanics. Battle missions, suggested setups, sample ships, etc.

Obviously playtesters will be needed. Step up, please do.

Considering it's not an actual word, I think spelling is optional.

And dukey looks better.

I have a huge pile of old BrikSpace First Edition papers in front of me that are all marked up in red pen. It's ridiculous. I've obviously got a death wish.

(Wow, a lot of these numbers are totally reckless. Why did the original Large Laser weapon do about as much damage as the Medium Torpedoes, which are a couple CP cheaper? This is gonna take work.)

Oh, hey. Something else I feel I should bring up:

If anyone wants to make artwork for the final copy of BrikSpace Second Edition, be my guest! I'd love to pepper up the PDF a bit with some epic space scenes and awesome ship designs (I'm not quite just talking about pictures of your ships, but I suppose those aren't entirely out of the picture (ignoring the pun, if you will)).

Excellent! There are some great ships and good epic shots in there. I may be forced to plunder.

EDIT: First update of the long haul.

I now have a link to BrikSpace Second Edition. This link updates automatically whenever I make changes, so the address shouldn't change at all (please let me know if it does).

The first things to go were the original armor values for ships. These got replaced with Integrity Points, which I'll cover later on in the rules. Reading through you may catch a few other minor updates and things, just to keep you on your seat until the next update. I'll do my best to explain everything eventually, but please let me know if I miss something or fail to explain well enough. I want to make this as understandable as possible.

I would quite much like to beta-test these rule, as it would be a good way to introduce my micro-fleet.

I'll put you on the list of people to inform when there's something to test, then. Thanks!

I'm gonna have to pull up pictures of that battle where the Space Commie mech took a flaming dook of death on Al-Kind-of.

Isn't that how it goes?

Obviously I failed to do my homework. That progression makes sense in my mind, though.
