Zombie Survival

Postby kidko » Tue Jul 27, 2010 8:25 pm

Olothontor and I are going to be doing a series of battles today/tomorrow, and here's the first one.

Olothontor and I each had a minifig, surviving the zombie apocalypse in a museum. We used Dr StrangeBrik's Zombie AI rules for our zombies.

Our battlefield was a bunch of paper, since I don't have enough briks to support an entire two-floor building. It looked a lot like this:
First floor
Second floor

Here are close-ups of the heroic minifigs:
Olothontor's minifig
kidko's minifig
And then the zombies.

Speaking of which, they started moving...
...As did the survivors.
The zombies again, starting to spread out...
And the two survivors take sides of the balcony. kidko takes aim at the zombies below with his shotgun.
The zombies keep moving, splitting into two groups and just moving away from each other.
kidko fires (and misses) while Olothontor moves to watch over the stairs
Olothontor moves down the stairs as the zombies approach
kidko starts towards the stairs as well
The zombies catch Olothontor's scent and start moving in.
In response, he puts a chainsaw through one of them. kidko moves down as well and tries to put another shotgun blast into the group, but it's out of ammo. He ditches it for his sidearm.
The other zombies start to move in, at the sound of the gunshot
The chainsaw's chain flies off, and while disabling the weapon, it also manages to slice up one of the zombies in the pack.
Olothontor draws his ice pick and stabs it into a zombie's chest. Too bad it gets stuck.
Weaponless, Olothontor can't help but get his face eaten off.
kidko runs upstairs, tossing his axe behind him (missing horribly).
The zombies follow the last human up the stairs.
kidko takes out two at once with his pistol.

And now for something completely different:
Our snacks.

In all seriousness, though, here's how it went down:
Thus died kidko's minifig. It's a shame, but only in that he didn't get to kill more of the zombies before he died. He tried to get away from the horde by sprinting to, and jumping off of, the edge of the balcony. But the fall killed him. Like I said, a shame.

Final battlefield; click for a little bigger version.

I thought the paper mapping worked well. Pity the hero's couldn't work up some Heroic Awesome, bad rolls I guess.

Nice. Can't wait to see the rest of the battles.

Lets hope Pes doesn't see this. The paper worked well, although I think a little more care could of been taken when you drew out the field, will the rest be in a similar format?

Hrm. Paper definitely works, but how did you like the zombie AI rules?

Excellent battle, and it's great how you came up with a new mapping type for brikwars.
I loved the short comic as well. There should be more made.

I am in complete agreement with Moronstudios. It's amazing to see what people come up with when they don't have the proper supplies to make a full-scale Brikwar (or anything else for that matter). The paper mapping worked extremely well, although I personally wouldn't be able to keep track of what goes where on the two floors.

the comic was great as well, you definitely made a good choice when you decided to do that, since you can't really show cinematic stuff on a 2D battlefield.

Amazing work, I will be eagerly anticipating the rest. :omnom:

Creative solution is creative. Especially the comic, since it's finely done even if sketchy.

Edit: crap, there goes my sweet title.

You know, you could also make two separate floors in lego? Just sayin', 'cos I agree with people here that the paper worked as well. Good solution 'cos a two floor building is hard to make playable.

Edit: Don't worry Zahru, you can still become a cool Jaw-Jaw like me! Judging by your description for dungans in your world's 'lore' ... :)

Nice, but perhaps you got overwhelmed, an additional fig or two should make thins more even don't you think Oloth?

Oh, and one more thing. I like the way you made the actually battlefield, with paper. For my first upcoming forum battle, I will require some VERY large buildings, and bricks aint enough. So Im making basic polyhedral shapes for buildings. Vegetation, props and cover will still be in lego bricks though. Do you think this is wrong and it ruins the game?  :?

Awesome. I love zombie movies and this fits in perfectly. Especially enjoyed the comic.
BFenix, work with what you have. As long as its fun, go for it. I would rather play on a paper and brick map than not have a map at all.

I've added the paper museum idea to BW2010 chapter 1.3.  It looks like this:

<img src="http://www.brikwars.com/rules/2010/images/paper_dungeon.jpg" alt="The map is the territory" hspace="5" vspace="5">
Very quick games can be thrown together by scribbling out maps onto sheets of paper. Here, Olothontor and Kidko find themselves in a zombie-infested museum.
