my soundless voice
I have a soundless voice
That you listen to with your eyes
It is old but new
It flows better than water
Much more solid than rock
More malleable than clay
More rigid than steel
I last forever
But my time for you is finite
Whatever you do cannot impress me
No matter how stupendous or amazing
I will sit here waiting
For you to come by
I might pique your interests
Friendly and amazing
Or maybe I will sicken and disgust you
Uncouth and unintelligible
I am what you perceive me to be
To one I am a one who is wise and knowing
To another; a time waster and a nagger
I sow the seeds of love and trust with my right hand
While nurturing mistrust and hate with the left
The young heed me and the old command me
I am the illusion of control
Though I prove its futility
I compel leaders
And soothe the masses
I twist truth and fortify lies
I construct history
And demolish myth
I can topple kings
And start wars
I am the main stay of civilization and its overriding bane
I break apart friends
And seal the deal for love
Though you can catch me you cannot keep me
Many love me
Some loathe me
Even a few lusts for me
I know more than anyone
But you will always know something I do not
I am what sets you apart, from beast and bug.
But don’t let that fool you
I am a fickle one,
When I am put to the right task I am unstoppable
But when misled I am as useless as a wet tissue
And when misused I can cause chaos of an unimaginable scale
I am true power
With me by your side you cannot fail.
But do not think that I pick sides; your opposition use me to their full advantage.
Everyone has me.
Tyrants hoard me, and restrict me.
Everyone wants me.
Scientists are ever searching for me.
Everyone can’t get enough of me.
I am in every classroom you are.
But no one can have all of me.
Who am I?
What is my silent voice?
Right now you are using me.
You are hearing my voice.
Can you guess?
