The Battle of Good and Evil
*Ahem*
Here goes:
Many centuries ago, there were two brothers. One was a wise wizard, and the other was a good-willed paladin. Both had built magnificent kingdoms, and their subjects lived in peace and prosperity. Both brothers were very close. One unfortunate day, the wizard delved into the wicked art of necromancy, and turned his subjects into mindless servants to do his bidding. Sadly, his brother, the paladin, had to go to war. The battles raged on for centuries, with millions slain, until only one family in the paladin's kingdom remained. They trained their children in the ways of magic and the sword, and sent them out into the world to battle evil. They had all failed, until one of their sons, by the name of "Fandar", had come of age to fight. He fought against the wizard's hordes, until finally, the wizard's great-grandson himself challenged him to battle. Fandar raised his sword, and charged to battle.

(Note: This is just a continuation of the story, and not part of the contest entry.)
Part 2
The battle raged on, both showed great skill as they dueled through the day. After three days of dueling, both were exhausted. The wizard's grandson, at the last second, cast a spell on the paladin, transporting him to a strange place.
The paladin found himself in a dark, black room, lit by the red flicker of a portal. In front of the portal was a cloaked figure, who leaned on a twisted black stick. Where his face would be, there was only a swirling black void. The man motioned for Fandar to come closer.
The man told Fandar of the portal behind him. The portal could take him anywhere his heart desired. However, the necromancer had stolen his heart and locked it away in the Abyss itself, leaving him in the lonesome room. A strange ward had kept him from entering to retrieve it himself. Fandar offered to go into the Abyss and retrieve his heart, so he could once more be free.
The paladin looked into the glowing portal, and after a brief moment of hesitation, entered into the Abyss.

'Cuz, that's the style. Also keeps him from getting yanked up by his hair/getting his hair caught in something while escaping a burning building.Blitzen wrote:Why is the good guy both bald and generic?
IDK about generic, you can't get too "original" with paladins without losing the point.
Actually, I was just going for elaborate and shiny, but now that you mention it, it does look kinda German...Bleep wrote: Nice figs Doodstormer! I like the shield of the knight specifically. Any chance it was German inspired?
Any way, here's the next part (long-delayed):
What Fandar saw was shocking. Hundreds of the tormented were screaming from the ocean of lava below, begging him to kill them and end their torment. He carefully crossed the rickety wooden path through the Abyss, alert for any enemies or guardians of this foul place.
To his surprise, nothing had assailed him. No demon, undead, or human foe had tried to stop him. Not far in the distance was a pedestal, and upon it was the spectre's still beating heart. He took it off the pedestal, and it started beating faster.
He looked behind him, and there was the very spectre who owned the heart. Even though he had no face, his joy was apparent. The curse was broken the moment Fandar grabbed the heart. He and the paladin started off to go back to the mortal world...
