BrikRPG

Post by Ben-Jammin » Wed Mar 30, 2011 5:22 pm

OK, so my school's spring break is next week and I've been highly considering creating a BrikRPG gaming system of my own. Knowing that I'll have an abundance of time on my hands, I would like to hear your all's thoughts on the matter. I'm probably going to make the rules system over the break and was thinking of doing a mix between the brikwars system itself and the WOTC D&D/Star Wars roleplaying game systems, with a few of my own elements thrown in.

So what do you guys think?

If you think you can make it work, go for it.

Leave out the Starwars and replace it with more Brikwarry awesomeness and you will have my support.

Leave out the Starwars
I wasn't going to include anything Star Warsy in particular (some weapons maybe), only the RPG system. Although Saga edition rules are nearly identical to D&D 3rd and 4th edition, they include some additional rules that aren't in D&D rules that would help a sci-fi setting.

Saga edition sucks, do revised core instead.

Fixed.

Sounds like a good project. Just don't make it too complicated, or you'll bog down in the intricacies and never finish. Trust me on that one.

Fix up something like middle earth roleplaying tables... roll a 4, with a skill bonus of 2 equals six- Slice an opponent's arm off.
And the worst part is, I don't think of good comebacks until after the... HEY!

I'm probably going to do a few playtests or whatever to see just how well my rules are. I've gotten some extra ideas from video game RPGs like KOTOR and Fallout. Just out of curiosity, if I did a few playtests on the forums, would any of you guys be interested?

ME! ME! I'd like to test it. Heh, heh. I'd also give you feedback and moral support.

Well, I've got some ideas, and I'll probably type them up tomorrow or sometime this week. However, there's a couple problems:

6: I have now idea how I could get all the rules onto the forum into a downloadable format, unless of course I simply posted all of the rules and abilities, skills, and attributes the players can have onto a new thread.
7: No idea what kind of theme to do the playtest in. I don't have hardly any medieval stuff, so that's out of the question. I can do any of the following genres:
-Star Wars (I have a TON of Star Wars stuff)
-Modern (Just about anything could fit here)
-Post-Apoc (Fallout or Metro 2033 style, maybe some S.T.A.L.K.E.R. too, if someone hasn't already tried that)
-Survival/Horror (zombie/undead hordes, another Metro 2033 possibility)

Anyway, I'll try to start getting everything ready. Once the rules are finished (I'm trying to make them as simple as I can, but still usable and with some depth) I'll let you all know.

That would be amazing. I'm really excited for this now.

I've kind of gotten stumped again. I need some input from you guys.

I finished the attribute section today. Attributes determine the majority of your character's abilities. There are six:

-Strength
-Agility
-Health
-Intelligence
-Wisdom
-Charisma

I also started work on the six main classes and a leveling system using EXP points. The classes are:

-Soldier
-Rogue
-Noble
-Jedi
-Magician
-Scout

I plan to start working on prestige classes tomorrow, and hopefully plan to have the abilities (similiar to perks from Fallout) and skills sections done by Wednesday. I hope they don't sound too much like a WOTC RPG...

So, any suggestions?

In this thread http://www.brikwars.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=5799 we have collected a bunch of specialties. You could use them for inspiration for your abilities.

I don't know why you have both intelligence and wisdom, they kind of seem similar. I would replace wisdom with either perception or endurance (i know they are both from fall out.)

Looking at the classes you have chosen you are going with the starwars or modern theme?
Because otherwise the magician and the Jedi don't really fit.
