BrikWars Vehicle Datasheets

Post by HAL-9001 » Fri Jun 10, 2011 11:35 am

Inspired by Topic 7101 and Warhammer 40,000: Apocalypse, I've created a BrikWars Vehicle Datasheet.

Features include:
6. All of the fields from the Minifig Stat Card (Title, Cost, Image, Armor, Move, Skill, Specialties and Options, and Flavor Text)
7. Expanded fields for tracking Weapons and Ammunition, and Size
8. All New field for tracking Damage taken during a battle (Size, Component, and Special [i.e. Fires]) and Power and Ammunition expended in a turn.

Here it is, in several formats:
PDF (blank, for printing and having on hand for impromptu Creations)
ODG (editable, the template from which all of these formats were generated)
DOC (editable, for those of you who need Microsoft products)

Be aware that the ODG and DOC may have subtle differences from one another, as the conversion process is of unknown accuracy.

I'd change the proportions of some of the fields. The image doesn't need to take up half the page, and it'd be kinda hard to fit the weapons in such a small field.
Other than that, it looks pretty good.

This post contained a link to a PDF of "Form B," an alternate design with re-sized fields (including enough space in the Weapons/Ammo field for 15 line items, among other things).

Okay, I see that ten people have downloaded Form A and Form B (I'm assuming substantial overlap between those groups); anyone have any feedback? I'm going to put the finished product in the back of the PDF rulebook, so I'd like this form to be as good as possible. I've already noticed a few minor edits that need to be made, and I'm sure there must be others I've missed.

I've also noticed that nobody's downloaded the ODG form yet. Does nobody use LibreOffice (or OpenOffice.org, or NeoOffice)?

Form B looks pretty good.
And Open Office confuses me. I am not a clever man.

Unless I get any strenuous objections overnight, I'll make my couple of fixes, update LibreOffice (it seems the next version has improved SVG import and export, which will hopefully save me from the trouble to make it from scratch using Inkscape), and have my final Datasheet based on Form B (blank and editable versions) up tomorrow.

Regarding editing stuff: the only steps you should have to take are Insert->Picture->From File (and then resizing/cropping the picture to 6.5" x 3"), and double-clicking and editing the various text fields. In my experience, Draw is much easier to use than Inkscape, although that may have more to do with my experience (or lack thereof) with each program.

I guess I could export a DOC file, too -- I'll see about that tomorrow.

I suppose I have a stupidity shield to such ass-pain. I look at Open Office, and all I can say is "That is a thing."

Okay, it's done, in ODG, DOC, and PDF formats. Links in the main post.

I cannot vouch for Microsoft Office, but LibreOffice Draw (ODG) can export to PNG, so you can embed your datasheets in your posts.
