Imperium Constructor
It's summertime, and that means that I'm home to build! Here are the fruits of my labors, an all-new faction, the Imperium Constructor!
The Imperium Constructor was once a shining paragon among space-faring civilizations; dozens of worlds prospered under its benevolent, enlightened rule. That all changed when they met the advance waves of the Dungan Swarm. With Dimmy and Jaw-Jaw and Fleebnork infestations striking without warning, and massive hive fleets taking system after system, the people desperately re-organized their society to a war footing. They built a molding machine to create an army made of millions of duplicates of the perfect warrior, and with this army, the Dungans were repelled. Unfortunately, the warriors saw the people whom they were created to protect as weak and unworthy of life, while the Imperium saw their warriors as expendable second-class citizens. The Imperium was riven with a civil war, and the clones emerged victorious over their creators. Many generations later, these events passed into legend as the First War; the modern Imperium Constructor is a theocracy dedicated to worshiping the Master Mold, and they believe that it is their destiny to conquer the galaxy in the Mold's name.
Here's a group photo of all of my soldiers:
And all of my creations:
Since MOCPages has had some outages lately, here's a picture from BrickFair (not as much detail, but everyone's in it):
Command Units:
Elder
Elders are the very oldest clones. They have the experience of hundreds of campaigns fought on dozens of worlds, and they are seen as a direct connection to the Master Mold. It is rumored that some of the highest-ranking Elders were part of the First War. “I am the avatar of the Mold's will!”
Core Units:
Disciple/Adept
Every raw clone starts his career as a Disciple, proving his worthiness to serve the Master Mold.
Disciples who prove themselves in battle are promoted to Adepts, and given command of a few Disciples themselves. “Follow me to glory – for the Mold of War!”
Angel/Archangel
Above: Air; Below: Ground
Disciples with an affinity for operating vehicles become Angels. Some feel that such an assignment is a punishment, as it prevents them from serving on the front line, but their concern is mollified by the fact that they get to fire the really big guns.
Above: Air; Below: Ground
Angels with command ability (or Adepts with piloting skill) become Archangels, to lead a Host of Angels into battle. “I visit judgment upon thee in the name of the Master Mold!”
Assault Units:
Penitent
Disciples who have fallen short in their duty to the Mold may be punished by becoming Penitents; they are given two swords and pumped full of combat drugs, and pointed in the direction of the enemy. “I have gravely sinned, but my life will not be squandered!”
Avenger/Retributor
Drawn from the bloodthirstiest Disciples, Avengers strike from the skies, swooping down from above to deal sudden death to their enemies.
Avengers with the right combination of luck and skill to survive for a decade are promoted to be Retributors, and lead flocks of their brethren into the heat of battle. “We strike with the wrath of the righteous!”
Messenger Utility Vehicle
The Missionary Utility Vehicle was built with the rank-and-file in mind: while most vehicles require an Angel to both drive and fire weapons, the Missionary's sole weapon has its own dedicated controls, so that one soldier may focus on driving while another focuses on the attack. The remaining two members of the squad may take up positions in the Missionary's bed.
Creation notes: yes, I did finally decide to give these guys a scouting vehicle.
Cherub Attack Fighter
Angular and sharp, the Cherub's distinctive silhouette strikes terror into the hearts of the Imperium's foes. The rear cargo area is often used to deploy Avenger strike teams.
Creation Notes: Based on the former airframe of the Solar Federation's Lancer Pursuit Fighter.
Support Units:
Invader Infantry Fighting Vehicle
Capable of carrying up to a dozen soldiers within its heavily-armored walls, the Invader is built for penetrating enemy formations with its armor and devastating close-range fire, and then discharging its payload to mop up any survivors.
Scourge Main Battle Tank
The Scourge is the standard artillery piece of the Imperium Constructor; they are employed to soften up defenses before the Invaders arrive.
Castigator Super Death Tank
The mightiest ground vehicle in the Imperium's arsenal (or in any faction's arsenal), the Castigator can smite foes from afar with ease. “Ready to unleash nine barrels and eight rockets of hell!”
Not compensating for anything, no sir...
Seraph Assault Carrier
The Imperium's primary air support unit, with a massive cargo area for carrying infantry or vehicles – including the massive Castigator. Its size and relatively low speed make it a priority target, but its armor can shrug off all but the mightiest of blows.
Specialist Units:
Adjutant
When a vehicle is too difficult for a single Angel to operate, an Adjutant may be employed to take control of some weapons and alleviate the load on the operator. “I shall direct the Mold's holy wrath upon you!”
Fleet Units:
Coming Soon: some fleet units
Some final notes:
I was going to stick to red and black, but I ended up not having enough of either to fully plate the vehicles (those wings I used for the front of the tanks' side armor, for example), so I put in some white as well. Good thing, too, because I only had white torsos in sufficient numbers to make a decent amount of soldiers!
By my figuring, I've got about 900 CP worth of Imperium Constructor guys, most of which is contained in the vehicles and their operators.
Other Factions:
- Solar Federation (Good Guys, with an emphasis on mobility, flexibility, and the color blue)
- Ever-Builders (think Blokbots, coming soon)
- Jovian Alliance (seceding from IC, using stolen IC and loaned SF equipment and hybrids thereof, most likely CAD only for a while)
- Space Pirates (slapdash construction, kind of post-apoc feel)
- Dungan Swarm (think Space Locusts)

I'm glad the vehicles pleased!
The whole point with the soldiers is that they're factory-identical, churned out to fight (and die) in huge numbers. I think it would work better if I had, like, three dozen of them, or something.
The vehicles (especially the Invader IFV) are actually based on some concepts I'd had for (what eventually became) the Solar Federation -- I put them aside when I decided the SF would be based around agility rather than brute firepower, but when I dreamed up the Imperium, I decided that it would be an army with lots of soldiers and massive vehicles to back them up, so I was able to resurrect those old designs (recolored, of course).

Hmm, I hadn't thought about a scouting vehicle. To be honest, that doesn't really fit the character of the army, although an Armored Car might do the trick.
Also, the more that I consider swapping the Lancer and Cherub designs, the more I like it. I'll be working on that over the next week or so. Expect to see some new equipment and units in my armies coming soon!

These guys remind me of the Ori from Stargate for some reason. You should make some Preachers for converting enemy soldiers.

I probably wouldn't just recolor it -- maybe round out the back, make it fully-enclosed with a smoother front, and give it different wings. I still think that I can put the frame to good use.Theblackdog wrote:I'm not sure if the Cherub would fit as well in the Solar Federation.
I'm already working on an Imperial-colored Lancer body, and it's coming along nicely...
It's like you've read my mind! I'm working on a war-scene (maybe up to four ways).Warhead wrote:It'd be good to see all your guys tooled up for war with guns and such.

Several new things here! A group shot photo, for one thing. Also, a new scouting vehicle (the Messenger), the Cherub Attack Fighter has gotten a new look, and I've completed the massive Seraph Assault Carrier!
