Reclaiming Fort Jefferson

Post by mgb519 » Sat Jun 25, 2011 3:23 pm

It was only a matter of time. Having been planning a declaration of war for some time, their spies uncovered Intel about what was known only as "The Alamo Drive." The Americans didn't even entirely understand it, but generally designated it as a "morale booster." It had profound psychological effects such as increased reflexes, accuracy, morale, and resilience. M.A.S.S. wanted it.
They struck Fort Jefferson from nowhere, without warning.
It was a massacre.
America responded quickly, but not quickly enough. M.A.S.S. is now entrenched and otherwise prepared.
Image
The Rangers and demo squad were sent as an advance team, and experienced many a tense moment, being just within firing range of M.A.S.S. mortar units.
Image
The main attack force arrived around 9:30 AM with a serious vehicular arsenal and more than enough soldiers...at least, that's what they believe.
Image
Now that the main force has arrived, M.A.S.S. begins their defense. After all, the best defense...
Image
As America advances, another mortar is fired at the camp, but lands way off target.
Image
The APC offloads the marines, having now traveled up to the bridge.
Image
The Eagle fires it's javelin missiles at the Harbinger. The Harbinger survived the explosion untouched, but a trooper who was caught in the blast did not fare so well. The US claims first blood.
Image
The Eagle then took heavy fire from the APAT Gunship, but was not downed.
Image
A ranger who was caught in the blast of a mortar, while having survived the explosion itself, succumbed to the intense flames that engulfed his body. Irony literally stares him in the face.
Image
In turn, another strike on the Harbinger proves far more successful. It is obliterated.
Image
The Albatross launches several GT rockets in an attempt to kill the mortar units behind, but the wall absorbs most of the blast.
Image
The US infantry continues to advance, but the vehicles are still further ahead than is wise.
Image
The gunship continues to pound the eagle with it's A2A flak cannons and kinetic chainguns, damaging the wings and taking off one of the horizontal tails.
Image
Another M.A.S.S. trooper falls victim to the Eagle.
Image
The Albatross fires another few GT rockets, this time on target. Those who would have been in the blast managed to bail in the nick of time, and only just. The wall has been completely destroyed, and those below are now hard pressed for cover.
Image
The arduous process of getting the APC across the bridge begins.
Image
Another M.A.S.S. trooper falls victim to sniper fire.
Image
The battle starts getting serious, as a mortar lands right inside the Albatross. The dropship receved some serious damage, The door gunners were completely blown to shit, and the rest of the 101st got scattered all over the damn place.
Image
A Demo-trooper redshirts for the leader of the Rangers. His bravery will be remembered by the US for the rest of the war to come.
Image
Without even a moment's rest, M.A.S.S. continues to gun down the 101st, hoping to strike a blow to US morale. Image
The US responds by taking out another trooper.
Image
Now without weapons, and after an attack from the APAT Gunship shattered the canopy, the pilots are forced to resort to extreme measures. They gun the engines and try to plow a hole through the front line of defense. The whiplash alone killed the pilots on impact.
Image
The canopy on the APAT is destroyed directly afterward, and the pilot ejects. The gunship flies onward in a straight line, uncontrolled.
Image
Meanwhile, the Eagle manages to take out one of the Death Squad with rockets.
Image
The 101st has now been reduced to their squad leader.
Image
The last bit of brick wall is destroyed by a rocket.
Image
This brave shotgunner stepped in the way of a blast, preventing the most patriotic of American corps from being completely wiped out. The shot reflected harmlessly off of his armor.
Image
Realizing that they have underestimated the US, the general calls for reinforcements, and to his luck there's a squad on standby.
Image
A M.A.S.S. trooper pulls off one hell of a stunt and dodges a bullet.
Image
Their front line has been opened up, though, as this man was not so awesome.
Image
The peach shotgunner ran out of luck. Heads roll.
Image
American forces advance upon the breach with haste.
Image
This turns out to be suicidal. A Death Squad Operative armed with an energy flamer incinerates the lot of them. DOUBLE KILL!
Image
...setting off the charge that the last demo man was carrying, further reducing American numbers.

Is it mass defense is the best defense?

This isn't even the best we've ever done.
Sadly, that set of pictures was lost in a tragic computer crash. :man:

I'm loving this one. The battlefield, the effects, and the contrast between the two sides makes for an awesome looking game.
