[WIP] FyreUK Contest Entry - 'Stormside' and 'Sentinel'

Postby Olothontor » Sat Oct 08, 2011 10:55 am

The Cliffs of Aldier project has been put on hold for a little while, because a grand opportunity has cropped up: a chance to work on the FyreUK server with Matt and Phil.

The only catch is that it's a contest. You have to impress them, and I'm competing with LOADS of other Crafters from all over the net.

That being said, I dug around on deviantart for a while until I found something awe-inspiring enough and rolled with it.

Here's my progress thus far (it's a sequence of photos, so don't be thrown off by the changes inbetween).

It's coming along, but I'm not at all happy with it just yet. It's also got a long way to go. My deadline is midnight on the 1st of November, UK time, so I have about three weeks to make this as impressive as possible. Wish me luck, folks! I'll keep you guys posted on how it all goes.

The big gap at the top of your gate, extend it and make an aqueduct, perhaps one that flows into a glass chamber and creates a giant glowing lava statue?

Oh, c'mon. You can't tell me what I chose was BAD, can you?

Actually, my plan was to make those sort of "high-rise apartments." That same gap will copy over onto the other massive supports for the main bridge, and there will be small, high bridges inbetween the gaps up top. It should be pretty neat if I do it right. I'll use fences to create the look of a suspension bridge, it'll be cool.

Anywho, updates!

Also, two decisions that were made today.
6). The city will be named Stormside City.
7). That big-ass bridge will lead to a large circular platorm on pillars in the ocean, on which will be a temple dedicated to an ocean-themed God/Goddess/Pantheon (wow, that was a mouthful of a descriptive sentence).

EDIT: 10:30 PM sub-update.

Looking good man. Nice source of inspiration, having good resources is also important.

Don't have minecraft. And, this might sound weird on a loge forum, but building in 3d is not my strong suit.

Since Stormside is a port city, it of course needs some epic ships! Here's the first (and probably biggest) of a few to come.

^ You may also notice that the second large bridge support has been started.

Now this is the kind of stuff we should aim for at Matt's server.

Thanks, man!

It's finally beginning to look like a city.

You can kinda see to the left I've started on a Wharf District, where I'm going to try to use fewer torches and space things out a bit more. Also, no blue roofs in the Wharf, straight wood. I'm really trying to separate it from the city proper.

Also, more ships! Yay!
