Microspace Competition Voting Thread!

Post by Olothontor » Mon Oct 10, 2011 7:02 pm

Welcome to the voting thread!

You all get to cast your vote (including the entrants) on which ship followed the guidelines and, of course, which one strikes your fancy.
Olly, while speaking of The Guidelines, wrote: Some guidelines to follow:

6. Give your ship some character. While just posting a few images of your MOC and calling it a day is perfectly acceptable, it can never hurt to go the extra mile and create some fluff, even if that fluff is just the ship's name and a brief description of her crew. Along that same vein, don't post a novel either. Keep it relatively short and sweet; I'd say don't write more than a few paragraphs if you do this.
7. Be creative! If you have a completely wacky idea, go out on a limb and try it. Creative part usages, clever design, or subtle detailing are all welcome additions and really help flesh out a ship.
8. Fill out the ship. It's usually not a great idea to leave huge swaths of your ship open and without detail, unless the flat space has something interesting to it (large open curves, for example, don't need detail due to their interesting shape). Decals or stickers are perfectly acceptable, if you've got nothing else up your sleeve!
And here are the entries, in order of appearance!

Olothontor's Entry: The Cockatrice-Class Freighter
(yes, the tie-breaker judges are allowed their own entries)

Builder: Keith "Olothontor" Riddle
Title: Cockatrice-Class Freighter
Dimensions: ~3" x 2" x 1"
Fluff: This mid-size freighter is designed mostly for liquid substances, but has the cargo space to deal with small quantities of just about anything. Due to most of the ship's mass being comprised of spacious liquid containment tanks near the rear, the ship is often used to haul oil and other precious liquids from rim worlds to more civilized areas. The ship's design is simple and efficient, ideal for mass-production. They're generally bought in bulk by private shipping companies to fulfill contracts, although the occasional freelance merchant or smuggler can be found with one (legally obtained or otherwise).

Ender's Entry: The 'Credence' Light Cruiser
Builder: enders_shadow
Title: 'Credence' light cruiser
Dimensions: 3'' x 1.75'' x 1''
Fluff: The Credence was initially designed as a heavy fighter, however, the cost of building single units was much too high to be used as a standard. As a result it underwent several modifications, including beefing up the main engine and adding several other stabilizing and thruster engines, and limiting the firepower. This coupling made the Credence incredibly fast, and rightly so. It was designated a diplomatic vehicle, capable of making even long journeys without escort, due to it's speed and it's photon launchers and twin-linked laser cannons.

mgb519's Entry: The 'Leviathan' Attack Cruiser
Builder: mgb519
Title: 'Leviathan' attack cruiser
Dimensions: 7.5" x 4" x 2"
Fluff: The 'Leviathan' is an experimental warship with excellent maneuverability and combat abilities. It is crewed by about 32, though there are additional staff onboard.

MorganM's Entry: HMS Awesomeness
Builder: MorganM
Title: HMS The Awesomeness
Dimensions: ?x?x?
Fluff: N/A

MorganM's Son's Entry: The R-Blaster
Builder: MorganM's Son
Title: The R-Blaster
Dimensions: ?x?x?
Fluff: Built in the arms race to compete against The HMS Awesomeness.

I'd like to unvote for mine and vote for the "Awesomeness." To hell with the poll.

I vote for the Cockatrice! I like the colors and use of parts

MorganM and Son have been added to the post.

I'm having a tough time choosing between HMS Awesomeness and the 'Credence.'

... A really tough time.

HERE COMES DA JUDGE!

Olothontor, how exactly do the judges fit into this? Do we cast votes like everyone else, or do we only intervene if there's a tie between two entries?

Also, will you be able to edit the poll to include Morganm's two entries? If not, should we vote in the comments section instead?

It appears as if you'll have to vote via comments. I'm ignoring the poll at this point, since it'll be totally inaccurate anyway.

As for the judges, we get to vote normally, with the added bonus of breaking a tie. So, yes, you get a normal vote too. Use it wisely.

AAARGH. This hurts, but I'm gonna ahve to go with the HMS Awesomeness, but it's only like .00001 above the Credence.
