Assyrian S-143 White Widow Spider Tank

Image

My second Brick Link order for this thing came in yesterday. With all the new parts I managed to finish it.

Image

This is the S-143 White Widow, the first Assyrian Spider Tank design.

Image

The purpose of this vehicle is to be a mobile platform to deliver heavy weapons to the battlefield even over hostile or urban terrain.

Image

Unlike normal tanks, this can lift itself over huge obstacles, or even be used to shield infantry units from aerial bombardment.
Now, let's take a look at its weapons.

Image

The front of the tank can open up to reveal a missile rack.

Image

It has 8 MKII Missiles, and two Light Laser Cannons mounted in here.

Image

Then on the back is the large double-barrel Heavy Plasma Cannon turret. It can rotate 360° and change its pitch to shoot you no matter where you are in relation to the tank. (Except underneath of course.)

Image

The middle dish is actually a hatch for the crew. The compartment can hold up to 4 minifigures, but the tank only needs a crew of 2. The pilot takes care of driving and the weapons in the front, the gunner mans the turret.

Image

The tank can move its legs in a number of different ways. For example, I don't know why you would want it to sit down like this, but it can if you need it to.

Image

It can also assume an ultra-low stance while still being able to drive thanks to the wheels on the ends of the feet.

Image

In fact, it is so maneuverable...

Image

That it can climb onto my Death Wall...

Image

Prepare...

Image

And Jump...

Image

Back down safely on the other side. Problem Immortal Attackers?

Some construction notes...
- The wheels can fold under the feet to be stood on sideways, but it turns out this doesn't lend to good balance. I've found it is best to just keep them in the driving mode that you have seen in these pictures.
- The tank is too heavy for the joints in the legs. It can be balanced high or low, but sometimes it just wants to fall on the ground. If I had it to do over, I would make another pair of legs. The Technic joint method I used is very maneuverable but the tank is so heavy that it wants to push them around.

Anyway, that there is one hell of a spider tank! Amazing work! Also, the whole climbing over the death wall thing is great. 8)

I- um- wow. That is seriously awesome. I agree with Oneeye, it's shape is... memorable, to say the least.

The Scythian/Assyrian arms race, it may have started with the Super Death Tanks, but now you have spider tanks too?

Consider this shit on.

So much win. So much. The ability for it to lower itself all the way to the ground would be handy for storage in a space transport. Or, more importantly, crushing any infantry who try to sneak underneath and destroy the legs. Now the spider can squish the people!

Nothing would be more frightening than a group of these scaling your walls.

Great Spider tank, almost made me want to build my own. I knew you would figure the joints out though since you probably gained some technix experience when you were building your Armored Core. Also:

Am I the only one who thinks this would make for a great scene in a movie?

Argh, the creepyface-gate is giving the tank a blowjob! I hope that mental image will burn in your minds forever

Stupidity aside, this is a great tank. Personnally I'd prefer it a six legger to be more spidery-looking, but that's just my aesthetic preference. Now go and make at least 2 more!

It looks awesome and seems amazingly functional, but I feel like it needs moar dakka. Maybe add a pair of mandible-cannons, or a rear-mounted razor wire dispenser to discourage pursuit?

If I ever make a bigger one it will have 6 legs, but for now this is it.

As much as I dislike insects and mechs and combination's of the two objects even I think this is awesome.
