I had always considered building, say, the 4 blocks surrounding my school in Lego if I ever had the fortune to have, like, $5000 in my lego budget. The city is so dense there, it would make for ideal terrain, particularly with the 911 memorial's open space to stage armored vehicles in.

I wouldn't switch unless you're planning to widen the roads (24-wide seems like a minimum, with your ridiculously huge tanks), or do something else awesome (4-wide manhole covers open up the option of fighting in the sewer system under the city). Also good would be raised walkways between and around buildings, especially if you issue grappling hooks. Lots of weak, precarious structures, ready to fall hilariously on someone, doesn't sound very Brikwars to me at all.Natalya wrote:It will be a forum battle. Right now I need to finalize objectives and the battlefield... You've all seen the Death Wall and stuff, but the city layout has been a problem. I'm considering switching from baseplate roads to actual brick-based roads to make it look more awesome and get more detail. I have prototyped a design similar to this:
I probably wouldn't go into as much detail, but the basic premise of a black road built by sideways bricks is what I would be doing. I guess I want the battlefield to be the most epic city BrikWars environment ever, not just a collection of buildings surrounded by road baseplates.
Otherwise, though, I really like that square white building with the SNOTted sides. And your bunkers, wall, etc. are all delightfully Goldmanesque. If you can get your hands on a big pile of them, the 4x4 quarter cylinder panels are a great way to assemble large, cheap single- or two-story structures - as corners they reduce your need for multiple part types, so you can put together a pretty good warehouse or factory with 8 and a shitload of one or two basic brick types (1x8 and 1x4, maybe - or you could go whole hog and use 1x16s and 1x5x2 bricks).

This sig is too fucking large: show anyway

Natalya, I would use the road baseplates, but put tiles on the parts where the studs are. It would take far less bricks to build the roads, and it would give the illusion of a sidewalk. Then just build all your buildings on baseplates and one plate higher, so they'll match up with the sidewalk.

I think brick-built roads would be maximum win, if you want have the parts or the money for the parts.

the cool thing about doing a brick build road, especially in Brikwars, is that you can add to the destruction and whatnot from battle. Lets say that a rocket barrage hits the area, it might be aimed at one vehical in the road, but rockets are notoriously inaccurate, there will be colateral damage, craters in the road, ect... could be interesting to see how it might change the flow of the battle. might go from an open street to craters and blast debris all over, creating fighting positions where there was once only a smooth flat street.
or maybe i am thinking way too much into this, lol.

Honestly I think that would be a nightmare to try if this road is build of sideways laying brick.subyrally wrote:the cool thing about doing a brick build road, especially in Brikwars, is that you can add to the destruction and whatnot from battle. You'd have to put the whole thing apart just to open up a single crater.

It might be hard but it would be awesome.

And you could have pre-made ones and make it modular style.

^this!
it would be worth it for the afterbattle reports, lol. then again, i am going for sheer entertainment value from a spectator standpoint.

All I can say is that the only thing more beautiful than that battlefield is the battle that will inevitably demolish it! If you have room, some overhanging walkways over the highways would be fun to see.

Re: Death Wall and Tower of Power WIP 09-01-2011
Yeah, and I'm seeing these from the standpoint of an apathetic builder who has to go through all the effort of building and then RE-building this battlefield after already putting on a fairly good sized Brikwar.subyrally wrote:Natalya wrote:It might be hard but it would be awesome.

I'd suggest that if you are going to inflict roadway damage, then try to use OneEye's idea of modularity so that you can pop out and replace damaged sections of road as needed.
True...heavyfishcannon wrote:All I can say is that the only thing more beautiful than that battlefield is the battle that will inevitably demolish it! If you have room, some overhanging walkways over the highways would be fun to see.
...This also makes me wonder about the viability of a vertical battlefield, like a skyscraper or a cliff-side village.
Re: Death Wall and Tower of Power WIP 09-01-2011
i have thought about the vertical battlefield myself. basically, the entire battlefield would be contained within a large building, maybe the surrounding parking lots and streets. it would be a very interesting battle for sure. i could see vehicals only being for transport, maybe a small scout helicopter or two for air power and rapid assaults on higher levels. well, now you got me thinking about this again, i gotta find a way to make this happen, lol.

Step 1: take all the nightstands in your house.
Step 2: put them next to all the coffee tables in your house.
Step 3: Arrange mis-matches of height until desired effect is achieved. use smaller brick-buildings as needed.
Helicopters, grappling hooks, and jetpacks would be of immense tactical advantage in such a battle. Flames and flamethrowers would become incredibly dangerous.
