Southern metal

So I've been listening to a lot of southern metal lately. Some is influenced by hardcore, so there's some thrashy vocals/"screamo" at times (which I'm not sure if everyone likes), but I would give some of it a listen.

Step Up - Maylene & The Sons of Disaster
Attack of the Dungeon Witch - He Is Legend
The Rising End - Zao
The New Black - Every Time I Die
We Ate The Horse You Rode In On - Vanna

Brent Hinds from Mastodon learned to play Banjo before Guitar and dabbles in southern rock when he's not playing in his main band.
