Feng Zhu
Re: Feng Zhu
Eh, honestly, there isn't too much that's all that original looking...
The first airship is neat, as is the drago-arthropod castle...
Santa on the Wrath Dart got a chuckle out of me...
Other then that, he's too fixated on his fetishes for big rail-guns sticking out of everything, big vulnerable globular glass windows on everything, and HR Giger.

I messed around with that old tank tutorial he had up years ago.
Oh hey I found my Feng box, looks like I did this back in 2003.
I didnt actually draw a tank, I just got the general idea.
Re: Feng Zhu
That's the thing I don't like much about the public college I'm going to. We have to take so many other classes to complete our degree that we don't have much time to work on large-scale projects like this. I shouldn't have philosophy or math (although interesting) taking up time to work on awesome projects like this.
Anyway, I think I've seen this stuff before, but it's still wicked awesome. I love the distinct style, even with different subject matter. Even if the palette changes, you can still tell it's him, something I definitely feel I need to work on.
I also like being able to pick out inspirations. The Starship Trooper-like bugs, Blade Runner architecture, etc.

I totally agree man, I just spent this afternoon watching his tutorials and scribbling away into my .psd libraries.OneEye589 wrote:That's the thing I don't like much about the public college I'm going to. Easy answer, don't do a large scale project. Do just a small part, learn something, move on to something else.OneEye589 wrote:That's the thing I don't like much about the public college I'm going to. I didnt draw the entire tank, I just made a box, added some detail, hit it with some cool gray markers, white pencil, scanned and messed around with it in PS.
The markers add some nice texture. But people do all digital now.

I saw some artists that got inspiration from him on DA and Concept Ships Blog. Pretty awesome work, definitely going to check out those tutorials, normally the guys from speed painting and concept have nice stuff.

Whenever I see great images like this I get depressive because I know I will never reach even half that level of skill.

I just get sad that I can't generally enjoy them in video games or movies or other forms of media.

^This is why I enjoy building more than drawing. I find it much more satisfying to look around a model at all the details than to only look at one view at a time.
On the topic of this guy, his stuff is great. I think my favourite one has to be the airship, but here were some other really good ones in there, too.
