X-com remake

Post by Tzan » Thu May 24, 2012 2:25 pm

Oops!

2K Games announced yesterday that its anticipated game Xcom: Enemy Unknown, a re-envisioning of the 1994 classic X-Com: UFO Defense, would be released this October. However, in that same day, the company made a huge about-face and said the title would be delayed. And we’re not just talking about a couple months here. We might even be talking about a couple years. And it all hinges on the company’s financial situation.

The title is being developed by Firaxis Games, and will use a turn-based combat system where players command a squad of soldiers in battle. The game is being developed for the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. Although the title will have roots in the legacy X-Com mythos, 2K Games admits that the audience of gamers who will appreciate that is limited, so it will also be a worthwhile adventure for anyone who just appreciates sci-fi strategy games.

In other words, the game has a very defined vision and seemed to be almost ready for prime time. But then came the kicker. Later in the day yesterday, the publisher gave its earnings report, during which parent company Take-Two said, “2K Games now expects to release Xcom, its shooter version of the franchise that is in development at 2K Marin, during fiscal year 2014.” Take-Two blamed its poor financial performance as the source of the delay.

Huh, I guess X-Com supernerds can still play the shitty shooter game that is coming out.

I'm okay with this, my current computer is shit and I want them to do it right anyways. Fireaxis is a good studio, I trust them to not vaporware a game from the 90s.

Well now wait a minute. The quote from Take-Two says a "shooter" game will be delayed, not a strategy game. Does that mean the TBS one is still coming? :P

Yay, only about half a year or so i replayed X-Com on DOSbox. What an awesome game! What made it especially fun was that i gave the soldiers names of people from the Brikwars forum. Not many survived until the end. :-)

Hm, gotta play Terror from the Deep soonish...

Prior to going to Cydonia the stats were as follows:

Zahru II colonel 19 missions 47 kills
Solvess sergeant 12 missions 13 kills
Bragallot sergeant 17 missions 21 kills
Roc77 captain 18 missions 28 kills
Apollyon seargeant 20 missions 25 kills
Warhead captain 19 missions 29 kills
Rev.Sylvanus commander 24 missions 37 kills
Piltogg seargent 15 missions 16 kills

Everyone else died. Horribly. Probably multiple times.

HA! That's awesome you named them, yeah survival rate gets low in cydonia, and virtually none in X-Com2.
I ended up renaming them with thier first name like "Kim T60 S43 Tr73 R" (T=Time Units, S=Strenght, Tr=Throwing accuracy, R=Reaction time is above 55) It helps me sort out who gets what during deployment.

Nice trick. I learned their names. After over 100 missions without major losses (by abuse of the all-mighty reload spell) That just happens.

The fact that you mentioned people from the brikwars forum. I'm posting on it right now so there was a chance. Of all it was just a guess.
