I made a plane

I made a plane
I built this plane almost 11.5 years ago, apparently.
I suddenly feel very, very old.
I was particularly pleased with the cockpit, as I recall.
Never saw BrikWars action, unfortunately.

Cool, it reminds me of an x-wing without being an x-wing.

It's like the sweet convertible of spacefighters. Props to a great design that's still kicking!

I'd honestly never considered that! I was too busy ripping the major design elements off from some planes flying around in a few panels of a comic book whose name I cannot remember now.Silverdream wrote:Cool, it reminds me of an x-wing without being an x-wing.

Haha, thanks! That description captures what I was going for better than I ever could have.IVhorseman wrote:It's like the sweet convertible of spacefighters. Props to a great design that's still kicking!

This things has some sweet spots! The rather retro look reminds me of the old-school arcade shooters. Awesome job, even for something "that old".

Plus, it's piloted by BFenix. Nice job!

So... a Z-95 Headhunter?Silverdream wrote:Cool, it reminds me of an x-wing without being an x-wing.
Slap some Laser Cannons on the wingtips, and you're done!

Re: I made a plane
Why does it have to be related to Star Wars?Whiteagle wrote:So... a Z-95 Headhunter?Silverdream wrote:Cool, it reminds me of an x-wing without being an x-wing.

Re: I made a plane
Are you suggesting it DOESN'T need laser cannons?
Re: I made a plane
That bulbous pod on the starboard of the nose is meant to be a gunpod, but I suppose it could be up-gunned.Whiteagle wrote:Are you suggesting it DOESN'T need laser cannons?
You're right, slap some cannons on the wiptips, lose the rudders and replace them with an astromech droid housing, swap the intakes for four round instead of two rectangular, change the engine configuration, shorten the nose and give it a tip, fatten the body up a bit more, and it WOULD be the spitting image of the Z-95.

I just noticed the way you did the tail fins. That's pretty sweet.

I really like the cockpit interior. Why doesn't the cockpit window close fully?

Re: I made a plane
I would personally say that it's more like the Hot Rod of spacefighters. Way too cool to be just a meager convertible.IVhorseman wrote:It's like the sweet convertible of spacefighters. Props to a great design that's still kicking!

Thanks! Here's a picture of the full control suite:The Black Rabbit wrote:I really like the cockpit interior.
The pilot's helmet links up to an oxygen system. It's one of the reasons the headrest for the swank quilted leather seat is set back so far.Why doesn't the cockpit window close fully?
The plane is really only intended for atmospheric to low orbit actions. Obviously the ability of the pilot to survive this in a sheepskin-lined coat requires a certain pulpiness to the physics of my imagination. I suppose I could always dress my pilot in more of a hardsuit, or I could pull out the 1x2 tile with the Star Wars lights and the transparent HUD and back the canopy up the two studs to meet the back of the cockpit.
The real reason is style points. I liked the longer profile it gave, I liked the suggestion of something slightly retro, I wasn't thinking convertible when I built it but I was reaching around for that something in that visceral reaction.
A convertible hot rod for sure. Loud and muscle-y engines.Zupponn wrote:I would personally say that it's more like the Hot Rod of spacefighters. Way too cool to be just a meager convertible.
And thank you.
