Dragon Guard Additions

Postby Rev. Sylvanus » Sun Jul 22, 2012 6:50 pm

Hi folks,

By my reckoning, it has been nearly two years since I posted a full shot of my large medieval army - the Dragon Guard - on the Armory threads. This has mostly to do with the fact that I've been concentrated over those years on acquiring sci-fi legos and expanding my Barbarian army. The Dragon Guard, however, was my very first faction, consisting of a mere 31 figures, a ballista, 4 horses, and my iconic griffin. As of last week I have acquired what are probably my last additions to the Dragon Guard army. Not that it will retire, but I will now focus my energies exclusively on the ossum of my Barbarian Horde.

The forces are quite expanded since its original days. A full headcount now is:

INFANTRY: 8 Militia, 7 Fire-blades, 16 Spearman, 16 Archers, 2 Standard Bearers
CAVALRY: 4 Crimson Dragon Knights, 4 Cerulean Dragon Knights, 3 Dragon Riders
CREATIONS: 1 Dragon Cannon (3 crew), 1 Griffin, Optional Ballistae x2 (2 crew each)
WIZARDS/HEROES: 3 Mages, 1 Cavalry Captain, 1 Hero Lord
Totals: 68 figs, 9 horses, 3 Dragons, 1 Beast, 1 Cannon
Estimated CP: 1000

I won't be taking pictures of all the units again; they have remained relatively the same from what is found here.

ARMY ADDITIONS

I LOVE brickforge customs, and so some of my last paycheck went to getting 8 OTC swords. This unit of fire-blade warriors is lightly armored (+1) and have handweapons that deal an extra +1d4 fire damage. When the next chapters of the rulebook come out, they will also have a skill comparable to CC Weapons Master

An update I'm most happy with is a doubling of the army's cavalry units. Because of color supply and design of certain armor pieces from BrickForge, I've updated the pauldron types for all the knights, and returned to the traditional dragon helmet from Dragon Masters. The newly added knights are accented by blue highlights as opposed to the red color scheme of the older knights.

And at long last, the Dragon Guard has dragon riders! I was able to find classic green dragons at a good price and JUMPED ON IT! The figures mounted on the dragons used to be hammerer body guards. That position has been reconfigured to the fire-blades, allowing me to have a unit of winged, flying, fire-breathing death-from-above.

Thanks for indulging my recent photo-taking. The photo surroundings have also changed; I've recently left graduate school and moved into my own house, so there you have it. Hopefully I can find a hobby/comic store nearby so I can use my massive charisma to teach a new wave of brikwarriors.

Very nice! I like the dragons and the Fire swords especially, although I would suggest giving the dragon riders their hammers back (on the side of the dragon of course) in case they are stranded or lose their Spears due to a crit failure. They also looked very badass with the hammers.

Lovely army. Probably the largest medieval/fantasy one the forums?

Probably close, but I'm not sure; if I recall, Brag's Bulls are pretty large or were at some point. And Zahru's combined Empire or Evil faction probably exceeds this. I might run for largest uniform medieval army, but idk...

Though I mostly aim for around 30 guys per faction (ideal for a battle imo) the Falx have even more guys. But the largest army is probably Warhead's Army of Eevuuul.

Either way, seeing this makes me wish my armies weren't in the jumbled-up state they are now 'cos there's nothing like a medieval horde. I should probably get to work on that and mix up some mayhem.

Those banners are really cool.

Oh right! I had forgotten about the Army of Eevuuul, probably because I don't think it was ever in a forum battle or batrep.

Edit: I just looked up the Army of the Damned; in it's last thread update I'm counting approx 84 figs, somewhere between 9 and 12 skeletal horses, Centaurs, a harpy, a chariot, a catapult, rat swarms, and I think he was working on a bone-giant? So it is indeed larger than mine.

I would agree, though, 30 troops is a good brawl size.

Yeah... The bone giant is finished, later in the topic. There's this pic which I can't find right now somewhere where he has both armies lined up against each other, it's massive... 'cos in addition to the undead doods there's also a bunch of 'Gnoll Assasins' and other stuff. Maybe that's also part of the reason we haven't seen them in a battle yet :)

As long as this army has Darius, it is the best hands down 8)

OT Swords. These guys just keep getting better and better. One of the top fantasy armies around. The Dragon Masters are definitely my favorite, they look so classy.

Hoping to do another small-scale forum battle in the not too distant future; I just need to focus on furnishing my house, atm. Darius will be there 8)

I'm sure it's been posted other places, but what is one more time for expediency, right?
