Bionicles came out during my dark ages and the few times i noticed them during that time i had the typical dark ages sentiment : "Lego was much better when i was a kid, look at the crap they are selling today!"

Today at least their weapons do look intriguing to me.

I gotta say I lapsed on bionix when after about 2 years after the release of the rahkshi. From then until the newer stuff (swamp of shadows) I got maybe 3, 4 sets. Then, I quit bionicle because the theme ended... :(

Kopaka was my favorite, because he was bad ass. And ice cool.

Arkbrik, thanks for making this post 'cos that was exactly what I was thinking to say.

I have most of the first wave, some creatures and 1 of the small ice warriors (bohrok?) I lost the black one at one point (thinking back I believe I traded it for... something) and never had the fire one, but I haven't taken the others apart since I first got them. They were some good toys, simple enough, durable, with sufficient backstory to make sense of it and not limit the imagination. The Bionicle games on the Lego site were terrible though. They used to have this path you could just keep clicking without going anywhere.

Ah, the Mata Nui Online Game 1. It was 'bad' because it was added content on a monthly basis, but now it's fully complete and you can download it. I'd say give it a shot, it's a great point 'n' click, probably the best bionix game, with a very good athmosphere. Here's a DL link:

But yeah, the other games were pants.

My aunt bought my brother and I a few of the bohrok ones and I played with them a lot with other toys. Because of that head/whip feature thing (I don't know how to describe it but they could strike like a snake) they were always the villains against my other toys. I wonder if they're still in one of my old toy bins collecting dust?

Never really been a fan of these things. They just don't strike me as Lego. Where's all the studs for the stud god?!

2004 was probably the worst year for them. All the characters were cookie-cutter clones of each other, build-wise.
Then the fish dudes came out, and it was all cool.
And then they went back to making everybody identical.

Ha. Makes me think of how I remember when they first came out.
