BrikwarRPG in the Yellow Sector sign up

Postby Silverdream » Fri Sep 21, 2012 6:40 pm

Zupponn wrote:Each player will come up with their character's name and class. These are entirely up to you guys. They can be as specific or as detailed as you want. You can even create a short paragraph about your character. I don't care. All I want is to be able to create a minifig for the character that is somewhat what he/she should look like. The less you give me, the more liberty I will take in the minifig's creation.

Next, I want each player to come up with 1 or 2 items for their character to be equipped with. The items are Ranged Weapon, Close Combat Weapon, Shield, and Explosive. Again, you can be as specific or unspecific as to what these items are and I will try and match what you want as best as I can. I just need you to categorize each one of them with one of the 4 categories. If you just want to give me the category, then that's fine too.

Each player will have 5 skill points to spend to create their character. Stats are loosely based off of the Brikwars rules. You may spend your skill points on Skill, Move, Armor, Ranged Weapon, and Close Combat Weapon to a maximum of +3 skill to that attribute. These skill points will improve the appropriate skill or weapon by +1 skill each. (Note: If you have more than 1 Ranged or Close Combat Weapon, please refer to them as Ranged Weapon 1 or 2 or Close Combat Weapon 1 or 2)

Backstory

Each character is going to have 1hp, just like a normal minifig, so if your character dies, then that's the end for you (unless they get raised as a zombie or something). There will also be a system sort of like the Almighty Benny system where if the GM (me) decides that an action preformed by a character is awesome and/or badass, then they will be awarded a skill point to be allocated as soon as it's received. These actions can include killing 3 enemies with one blow, slaying a dragon single-handed, or preforming a 900 while using your fallen enemy as a skateboard. I am also planning on having some skill points be given out for doing predetermined actions in the game that I will know about, but you guys won't. The giving out of skill points is to promote exploration and awesomeness in the game, which is what I believe makes a game fun.

I will probably take about 5-10 players. Preferably your characters should be neutral or aligned with the Third Alliance. If your character isn't either of those than that's fine too.

I'm starting to feel the pressure, I should probably playtest my own brikwarpg rules as well. Although Zupponn's is admittedly a nice and simple ruleset.

Image
Dr. Russell Glassman, MD PhD
Micro-Biologist
Experimental Rifle (+1), Katana (+0)
Armor (+1)
Skill (+3)
Move (+0)
Backstory: Dr. Glassman was a pioneering Trattorian in the field of Immortal Core research, but unfortunately is much better known for trying to hit on the commander of the armed forces at one point. This provoked a lot of jealously from his socially-awkward colleagues, who appealed to the Council of Scientists to fire and blacklist him. Left with his career destroyed and with no future, Glassman stole his experimental gun, modified it to also fire normal rounds, and began to live as a mercenary for hire, angry and wanting revenge.

Lieutenant Wolffe
Prussian Deserter
Mo: 5"
Skill: 1d6+1 (+1)
Armour: 6 (+2)
Zerreiser UR: 3 Ra: 7" Da: 1d6+1 (+1)
Shield UR: 2, 1d6 (+1)

Backstory

Wolffe was a squad leader from New Prussia who had been fighting for the Empire from the first days of their wars against the indigenous tribes. His tactical skill was noticed early on, but he chose to remain a Lieutenant, saying he would not abandon his squad. Following the fall of New Prussia, Lieutenant Wolffe thought he was on his way to the remains of the fleet on an evacuation convoy when a VoL raiding party ambushed the nigh defenseless convoy. He fought hard, and was the last man standing against overwhelming odds. The VoL, admiring his courage, spared his life. Carrying the shame for the convoy he had lost and the people he had failed to protect, Wolffe felt unable to face his people again and has dwelled the Brikverse as a mercenary ever since.

Kerrick
Mercenary/Bounty Hunter/Aspiring Politician
War-Axe, NCR Advanced Blaster Rifle
Skill +2
Ranged Weapon +1
Close Combat Weapon +2
Brother of NCR leader Khaar, (not Zupponn's BrikRPG Khaar, they just happen to share the same name) he was granted the privilege of coming aboard the Justice as it made its extra-Galactic voyage. Having only just turned 18, he was still rebellious. Soon after the capital city's completion, Khaar and Kerrick had a fight, resulting in Kerrick stealing a uncompleted prototype frigate from NCR Shipyards, and flying off. He's made a mercenary of himself in the past few years, having experience from being around the military with his brother. But also learned politics from his brother and also enjoys it, and often uses those skills in his jobs, before blasting the marks head off with a stolen rifle from the NCR military.

It's cool to see somebody using the rules that I came up with!

Master Chef
Action Cook
The Frying Pan of Goodliness, Shield of Reckoning
Armor
Armor
Close Combat Weapon
Close Combat Weapon
Close Combat Weapon

Master Chef is the current Iron Chef champion, having killed the Covenant of Ultra Cooks in the last competition. Originally he was part of the Spartan Cooking Program, but the rivalry with the Covenant has taken the lives of all of his comrades, leaving him as the last chef to have a working mastery of the Spartan cooking techniques, which he uses to decimate his enemies at every opportunity.

I really like this set of rule but given that:
Brikwars rules wrote:The Expert d8
Average Roll: 4.5 with Bonus Dice: 5.025 Points Equivalent: 5 D6 Equivalent: 1d6+1

It appears to me that this specific part
Silverdream wrote:
Zupponn wrote:[...]
Skill
+0: 1d6
+1: 1d6+1
+2: 1d8

+3: 1d10
[...]
Ranged Weapon
+0: Use:3, Range:6", Damage:1d6
+1: Use:3, Range:7", Damage:1d6+1
+2: Use:3, Range:8", Damage:1d8

+3: Use:3, Range:10", Damage:1d10
[...]

is technically the same as:
Code: Select all
Skill
+0: 1d6
+1: 1d8
+2: 1d8
+3: 1d10
Ranged Weapon
+0: Use:3, Range:6", Damage:1d6
+1: Use:3, Range:7", Damage:1d8
+2: Use:3, Range:8", Damage:1d8
+3: Use:3, Range:10", Damage:1d10

Making me wonder if there is any advantage to spend two points on any of these two stats except for an additionnal inche of range on a ranged weapon which I think is not worth one precious skill point.
Also, from the Dice VS Points equivalent, this makes the +3 upgrade for skill grant a smaller boost than, for example, +3 on armor (or a very expensive upgrade if you prefer to see it that way).
Spoiler: show
Using the following Dice VS Point equivalent: D6=4, D8=5, D10=6, D12=7, you get:
Armor:
+0: 4 (D6)
+1: 5 (D8)
+2: 6 (D10)
+3: 7 (D12)
Skill:
+0: D6 (4)
+1 or 2: D8 (5)
+3: D10(6)

or am I getting this wrong?

TL,DR: lawmaster: You should spend that second point of skill somewhere else :rtfm:

I figured that out as well :rtfm: . In case we're fighting regular mini's, Wolffe should be rather BA.

5/6 chance to hit.
4/6 chance to kill.

6 armour, averaging 10 if he manages to parry.

The d8 does have a smaller chance to crit fail (also to crit succeed, but since you won't be needing extremely high skill rolls most of the time this is less important).

Bring it on you Scavs!

It's just a shame that I don't have a melee weapon, but I'm sure I'll get the chance to loot one early on like Bonn-o-Tron.

Would it be possible for Glassman to have a non-smiling face or like a stubble? Other than that,
