I've only been to Toronto once in my life and I wasn't too crazy about it, the transit sucks there. The story is original and the fight scenes are some of the best things I've ever seen. I didn't think Ramona was obligated to Scott because of the things he did for her, she started reluctant to support him when he was at the midway point in the exes. The ending where

they both just go out together is more or less about them recognizing both of their faults, especially in the comics. Scott realizes that he was an asshole throughout his entire life and the only reason he didn't know this before was because Gideon tampered with his memories.

Gonna side with Natalya on this one: I've seen it a couple times and it just got worse each time. Ramona Flowers, despite every attempt to appear otherwise, is a goody-goody damsel in distress who can't face the world without a man to hold her hand and tell her what to do. ARTISTICALLY it's pretty cool - but even if the fight scenes have all the cool video-gameyness to them, they're still pretty uninspired. Everyone suddenly has their own signature weapons or whatever that just come out of nowhere? what?

I feel like the Scott Pilgrim movie is like the Lord of the Rings movies, in that if you view it as a stand-alone product then it doesn't stand on its own merits very well at all, but if you view it as a kind of supporting product that helps celebrate a franchise that's already fully expressed elsewhere, then it does the job just fine.

Ramona and Knives kind of got hamstrung by the fact that they filmed most of the movie without knowing how the story was going to end, and so they weren't able to set up satisfying character arcs for either of them. My hope was that they'd subvert the "girls only exist to be objects for the hero to choose between" cliche by having them both ditch him at the end before he even got the chance to try, and everybody realizing that the whole dilemma was stupid to begin with and then going off to dip a bunch of french fries in mayonnaise or whatever it is Torontoans do. OH WELL.

So yeah, the ending was bullshitty, but they didn't have any chance to do the necessary dramatic narrative preparation to support it because no one working on the film knew what was going to happen at the end until everything else had already been filmed.
