Attempts at voice acting/dramatic readings

Post by RunsWithLegos » Wed Feb 27, 2013 4:25 pm

due to a couple of fun /tg/ voice acting threads i have gathered a few snipits. tell me what you think and how i can improve please.
"These walls are the mightiest of the land, even a GOD could not breach the main gate! My armies outnumber the population of nations around the world! my technology is unparalleled! what makes you think your pathetic little band of petty thieves and misfits has the ability to stop me?

-A necromancer king to Annons' last D&d party.

"Let me tell you something. There are weak men and strong men in this world. The strong men take everything and the weak men die. That's how the world was designed. Now I will show you how it works, weaklings!"

attempt one, a bit suave i think.

now for a bit more crazy
http://vocaroo.com/i/s1WAZ58bUBvY
"Listen Up. Follow my orders, do as I say and we can defeat the enemy. Don't believe in me and you're the loser. If you want to win, don't question me again. If you can't do that, I'll consider you an obstacle that needs to be removed."

Lines from a self-loathing warforged:

>I'm an insult to the concept of life.

>Golems. Sapient, but not sentient. I envy them.

>I am bound to your service so long as you live, sorceror. Please do not look into achieving lichdom.
http://vocaroo.com/i/s0xu5Lt0B3an
"As a swordsman, I shouldn't be saying this, but I detest war. It makes me realise that swordsmanship is nothing more than the art of killing. Still, when war is inevitable, a swordmans duty is to shed blood in the place of the helpless masses. That's why we must hone our skills and push ourselves farther than others. At least, that's how I justify it..."
http://vocaroo.com/i/s1xrTas68PHH
tried to sound tired and downtrodden.
"What makes you think you have any right to try and stop the future? Who are you to impose your will against the rising tides of change?"

"Who am I? I'm just a man who wants to see his family again, and I'll cut down any warlord or even god it takes to do that."
added a bit

http://vocaroo.com/i/s0eiJt9bEtKT
tried put a bit more of a mad scientist this time
-MEN OF THE PIKE, TOO ME!

-No Gods, No Kings, Only man.

"I am the shadow that you swear you've seen out walking at night, only to find nothing. I am the blackness that caresses your form once you turn out the light. I am the silence that comes once the birds stop chirping and the wind is absent. I am the monster that has been sent from an alien world parallel from yours to wipe your miserable existence off the face of the Earth. But you won't even see me before you die."

From a particularly memorable employer in Shadowrun.
This is Squeaky and this is Marky. Very very sick men who did bad things and did bad time for it. And this my spree killing friend is your father. A man of wealth and taste who upon hearing what these men did to those poor people and what they would do to his wife begged and pleaded for her safety. Gave us all the money in his safe so that she would be spared. Sadly he ran out before we could begin to negotiate the terms of his safe passage. Shame really because this is going to be fucking nasty.

"A lady is like a geode my friend. They may give off a rough or rigid exterior but on the interior they are beautiful and shiny. Sometimes they just don't know how to react and express their true feelings, and it takes an outside force to crack that exterior and get to the beauty within. Quite... philosophical, ain't it?" - Gareth, a Manectric in the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Tabletop a friend of mine is running. He's very cocky, selfish and full of himself. I kind of imagine him sounding like a greaser or something but I'd like to see what you guys do.

try #2
http://vocaroo.com/i/s1VZGVPRxkNj
An old and aloof king addresses his final regiments on the eve of a decisive battle. The PCs were doing some serious medieval spec-ops shit:

For too long have I sat on my throne. For too long have I seen naught but the walls of my palace and the faces of my advisers as my people fought and died in my name. For too long have I been detached from my kingdom, but no longer. Today, you no longer fight for me, it is I who fights for you. I fight for the sons and daughters yet unborn, that they may know peace in their time. I fight for the wives and mothers who sit anxiously at their windows, praying to Ajax that their men come home safely. I will fight, and in all likelihood I will die, but I will die knowing that I did not sit idly by and allow my people to be butchered! Today, the Ghost-King of Ithar stands with his people!

Okay, I got a fun one. This is from an old session of an abandoned campaign. I fancied it up a bit, but the dialogue is straight from the players.

Frederick walked back into the room, the light danced like lightning across the delicate etchings in the black adamantine plate.
Orcy-Orc Frederick: "K. I'm ready."
Karrus's eyes were drawn to the armor's detailing, until he detected the adamantium running through the suit.
Suave Sorcerer Ovar: "My boy, if that armor was alive it would sing. And have my home address."
Wizard-Smith Karrus:"Adamantium? That's cheating. It'd be one thing if it was mythril or cold iron, but adamantium is too easy..." He muttered to himself, shaking his head and walking out of the room.
Frederick: "Too easy? This armor was forged over a decade by the finest orcish craftsmen in the land. And a good friend of mine."
"So SHUT YER FACE."
"YOU GET BACK 'ERE."
"I AINT DONE YELLIN AT YA!"
Ovar: "I detect quite a bit of synergy in this team."
Frederick: "Yer just jealous ye can't afford the stuff."

shitty but meh.
“Build a bridge, lay a minefield, and assault a bunker. Just another day in the Corps.”

OC:
"The black abyss waits for no man! we shall strike into the dark and shine the light of humanity through the stars! Till the sun dies out and humanity draws it's last breath we march forward!
Subservient to Earth and her children for the good of all."
-The Moto of the Alliance Force Recon and Observation Fleet.

I was being quite hammy, no doubt about it. Did that detract from my performance?

I only listened to the first few.

As someone who lives near one of the biggest Voice Acting hubs of the English Speaking world, yes it did. But it depends on how serious you're being.

Who decided that all Necromancers have laryngitis? I've never understood this.

Why are they rotting? They may be necromancers, but everyone knows you don't sample your own product!
