Praetorian Fleet Yard

Post by dilanski » Sun May 27, 2012 8:49 pm

***CURRENT DOCTRINE EXPANSION***
1 New First Generation Combat Dreadnought to match the Exodus
1 New Second Generation Combat Dreadnought to match the Inexorable
1 New Frigate
Redo of Omegalodon Class Battleship

The majority of ships will now conform to a Siege or Combat design, with siege being hardier with increased survivability, while combat being heavier hitting.

Image

Vanguard
Image
Frigate based anti-fighter escort for larger ships.

Deathstalker
Image
Designed for extended patrol missions and capable of acting as a command ship for small groups.
Varitants:
Black-Ops Pattern
Filled with cloaking and stealth equipment, these ships are like the wind, only more likely to turn you into molten slag.

Azrael (Designed by Colette)
Image
Dedicated anti-frigate, gunboat and fighter platform, all with the armour of a cruiser.

Triton
Image
A much older cruiser, low tech with thick slabs of composite metal armour compared to more modern regenerative smart nano-loys, yet some would say this means there's less to go wrong. No matter what though its firepower isn't anything but heavy.

Vendetta
Image
The mainstay of any attack force, the vendetta is the line combat battleship in use by the Praetorians for a simple reason, it carries lots of firepower and can still haul ass across the battlefield if need be.
Variants:
AN Pattern
A specially commissioned variant to be be produced by the AN, most of the systems remain unchanged except for an altered power core that meets AN safety standard of not causing an extinction level event if it's ruptured on a planet.

Megalodon
Image
An experimental battleship, only a few see service in the Navy with the rest in use by Black-Ops branches of the empire. The ship's design parameters called for a vessel that could be as mobile as a destroyer at the sacrifice of armour and firepower, both of less use to a stealth ship. At the current time only 2 remain on file.
Variants:
Black-Ops
Where most of these ships reside, leading stealth fleets behind enemy lines.

Crucible
Image
A command ship and carrier in one, Crucible class warships are capable of providing electronic support to other ships.

Exodus
Image
Exodus class planetary siege Dreadnaughts are currently the largest ship in service of the Praetorian Empire. It's main purpose in lay extended sieges of planets, smashing down there defenses and destroying any civilization beneath it. It does unfortunately not feature weapons designed for the easy destruction of enemy super-dreadnaughts and alike, leaving it at a slight disadvantage hen 1-on-1ing with ships such as the Deity class.
Variants:
Spirit Of Ragnablok
A one off ship built to defend the AN and act as a command vessel for PAX-Corps. It features expanded fighter bays and replaces the dual laser battery with a XXXL Amigdalar Disruptor.

3 New additions and an obituary. Only uploading for the sake of completeness/OCD. I'll upload the files for these on request/when I have time to move the old wiki LDD library to the new wiki.

Insolent
Image
The Insolent super carrier hull was conceived in the dying light of the AN, to supplement United Systems carrier and AN Exodus fleets, with the fall of NY before the design came to fruition the project was put on hold until recently. Insolent hulls feature hangar space many times more than the antiquated crucible warships, or the more comparable Exodus.

Hood
Image
Although Vendetta class ships were always considered to be fast and lightly armoured for battleships, the hood represents a true battlecruiser design, more powerful than Tritons and faster than even the Megalodon class.

The Warspite
Image
Current fleet flagship. Originally part of a program to produce a hull that would be on better par with Scythian Battleships than current designs, the large expense of the equipment used in the design resulted in only one vessel being constructed. Warspite features a state of the art power plant and advanced targeting systems for all 16-3 gun batteries and the ventral bombardment battery.

If you use the hide tool on sections you've already finished then you can increase the number of bricks your processor can handle (just remember to unhide the bricks before saving). Granted, when attempting to screenshot the whole thing it'll still be a pain in the ass, but at that point you don't need to actually mess with any bricks.

EDIT: I think we are approaching Star Wars-level starship scales here.

This stuff is really, really cool. I think the Exodus is my favourite, but the hangar openings on the crucible are pure brilliance.

Well done Colette, you've gone and started an arms race, where 200 stud long planet killers of the line render every ship that has came before as completely irrelevant.

These are really pretty to look at, and the fact that they all have defined roles makes them practical.

If you can fit four battleships in one big dreadnaught, then you are way past star wars scale.
Ask now what I'm doing, even for me :mystery:

I think we're past even Warhammer 40,000 Imperial Navy scale here...

First thing I thought of when I saw this, couldn't find the version with the SSD in the same image though.

Also, all of this is awesome, continue.

LDD still runs slow, even using the hide function, just enough to add another thousand pieces so far. In a few weeks I'll hopefully be getting a mid-budget gaming tower, twice the RAM and CPU of my laptop, hopefully it'll breeze through it. My super-space-penis will be completed in time, in the mean while, no one go building a bigger one, or I'll have to try a 1000 stud model.

I once started a 700 stud micromodel of my Inter-Galactic Ship. It wasn't a military dreadnought though, more like the long spindly antimatter ship from avatar.

A limitation I noticed in LDD is that you can only zoom out so much- parts of a really long, 1000-stud-scale spaceship start disappearing making it impossible to view the while thing at once.

I was hoping there'd be a setting for that, but all I can find is the uber-sexy render mode. Perhaps it is something that can be altered in a config file somewhere.

Until I can complete my little contraption, that is until I have a PC with a processor that isn't labelled 'Pentium', I figured I might as well get a Line-ship replacement done.

Heathen

Image
"Steel On The Skyline..."
The Vendetta fast battleship certainly has influenced it's successors design, with slipstream sails and laser batteries just as prominent on the Heathen class, upgrades are numerous including a stronger super-structure, a massive increase in fire-power, hardened anti-matter storage and more tactical flexibility. Truly the Heathen will make it's presence known in battles small and large for years to come.

Image
The current full fleet shot with the Navy variant every class. Even though the last few ships I've come up with are huge compared to older ones (mostly to match other fleets) the Exodus still dwarfs all of them. At this point I regret not having a naming system, so far I have classes named after old British ships, Animals, Biblical references, my favourite comic, a Brendon Small song, an MMORPG expansion and a David Bowie song.
